Dunlop bought the mill in 1968. From that time until its closure in 2000 it had a number of different owners, the last being the Smith Family Industries. The Mill site holds significance for Warrnambool as the site was one of the earliest industries established in the town. The Warrnambool Woollen Mill operated for close to 100 years and in that time forged a strong link with the people of Warrnambool. This cash book contains entries which relate to the everyday operation of the Borough Common which predates the establishment of Warrnambool as a town. All ratepayers had the right to graze their cows on the common, with the cows being collected every morning by the herdsman and walked to the common. Entries relate to items such as eradication of thistles, repairs and erection of stock yards, burying of dead stock, purchase of bulls and clearing of waterholes. Salaries were paid to E. Margetts, D Allan, T Raingill, and M T Read. Auditors were James Dickson. After WW1 parts of the common were allocated to soldiers’ settlement blocks ranging from 18 to 30 acres. Other parts remained with the Crown for Municipal uses and part became the Warrnambool Golf Course. This album contains a number of local coastal and seascapes including Thunder Point, views of local streets such as Liebig and Fairy streets, panorama views of the town from Manse Hill and Booval Hill and the Botanic Gardens. Buildings included are Cramond and Dickson, St Joseph’s Church, the saleyards. The book itself would have been used by patrons of the Western Hotel when J Fox was licensee, from 1880 until 1887. The hotel had been operating since 1870 when William O’Brien applied for a publican’s license for the house on the corner of Timor and Kepler Streets with five sitting rooms and eight bedrooms. The stone building was designed by Andrew Kerr and built by Williams & Co. The Western Hotel was also the booking office for Cobb and Co Coaches which operated until the railway came to town in 1890. This album has historical significance on different levels. Firstly the photographs provide a view of Warrnambool in the late 19th century. The photos are aesthetically and artistically significant. Many of the buildings in the streetscapes are still recognizable. Secondly the Western Hotel has occupied a prominent site within the CBD for nearly 150 years. This item is a Certificate of Merit awarded to Leslie Arthur Tinker for bravery in risking his life in going to the rescue of passengers on the motor launch "Nestor " on the Hopkins River at Warrnambool On January 09 1921. Leslie Arthur Tinker was 31 years of age at the time of this rescue of passengers from the launch"Nestor". Les Tinker was the third son of Jessie and Frank Tinker. He was caretaker at the Town Hall for many years and lived on site. He was married to Elsie Moore and they had one son Donald born 1928. The sinking of the Nestor claimed 10 lives in Warrnambool that day and was a tragedy for Warrnambool. Two long remaining survivors were Janet Glass Dickson who died in 2011 at 97 years of age and A Mr Jim Russell who was still living in Warrnambool in 2011 at the age of 94.This certificate has strong historical and social significance with strong links to one of Warrnambool's larger families. The event itself was a tragedy for Warrnambool with ten people losing their lives. The award comes from The Royal Humane Society of Australasia and as such is a national recognition. A Legacy ceremony at the Shrine of Remembrance on 11 April 1990, the guest speaker was Commodore Jim Dickson. One of the annual "Anzac Commemoration Ceremony for Students" events, usually held just prior to ANZAC Day. The ceremony provides a valuable opportunity for students to gain an appreciation of the Anzac spirit, the significance of the Shrine and the meaning of Anzac Day. As well as photos of the ceremony and a fly past of four aircraft there are photos of three widows attending. The elderly lady in white on the left is Mrs Winifred Fotheringham who is also in 00579. She helped launch the 1990 Legacy week as she had reached 101 years of age (see 01045). This was the 59th Annual Commemoration service for school students. Photos were taken by Susie Howard who was publicity officer for Legacy at the time. It is a collection of memories of 49 residents recorded in oral history interviews and then adapted into a written record. Most of the interviewees had lived in Bacchus Marsh for many decades and are from a variety of occupations and backgrounds. The oldest interviewee was born in 1890 and the youngest was born in 1938. The interviews were conducted by Geoffrey Camm who then transcribed them and edited them for this publication. A black and white photographic portrait of each interviewee accompanies each chapter. Murray Comrie Collection. Information written by Murray Comrie: Dr. Philip H. Donovan took up practice as resident surgeon at Tarnagulla in April 1894 following the death of Dr. Dickson. He took up residence at Joyce's and then moved to opposite the (current) Post Office in Commercial Rd. He later took up residence at 79 Commercial Road, next to Runtings hairdresser and sporting good store.. With Dr. Deravin he successfully operated for appendicitis on S. James. He died suddenly on Tuesday 8th September 1903 from an aneurism. He was unmarried and aged 38 years. He was so highly regarded that the people of Tarnagulla erected a monument over his grave at Tarnagulla Cemetery. On Sunday 11/9/1904 members of St. George Lodge of Freemasons, Dunolly made a pilgrimage to the grave to mark the anniversary of his death. Monochrome photograph depicting Dr. Philip H. Newspaper Clipping from The Mail, 18-6-1996, P3 - 24 hour TradingMaroondah Council has rejected a planning application for a licensed club complete with 50 poker machines and betting facilities, at the rear of North Ringwood Shopping Centre. The club was to have been developed by local real estate agent Alan Dickson, and located at the corner of Oban Road and Dockson Cres. A total of 96 objections were lodged with the council, and petitions with 2697 signatures were received.

The first meeting of the 1st Bendigo Guides was held by Miss Merle Bush on the 22nd of August 1922 in the St Paul' School Room.. Twelve girls were present. In 1869, the Warrnambool Meat Preserving Company commenced their business on the site, where it operated until 1875 when it was sold to the directors of the Warrnambool Woolen Mill Company. After being destroyed by fire in 1882 it wasn’t until 1910 that the Warrnambool Chamber of Commerce was approached by Marcus Saltau and Peter McGennan to invest in a new mill. The original directors were James Dickson, P J McGennan, Robert Swinton, M Saltau, and J W Younger. In 1955 the Warrnambool Woollen Mill formed a partnership with the Wangaratta Woollen Mills. Dunlop bought the mill in 1968. From that time until its closure in 2000 it had a number of different owners, the last being the Smith Family Industries. This ledger relates to the operations of the mill in the period 1941-1943. It record items such as quantities and hours of wool being spun, combed, woven, carded. it also records the amount of waste from the processes and the quantities held in the warehouse of blankets, bales of wool, rugs. An item which has a strong connection to one of Warrnambool's longest running businesses and one of its largest. Thousands of local people over the years have been employed there and have an attachment to the woollen mill.It gives an insight into the daily runnings of the business.Black card covered exercise book which is divided into various sections. The Merle Bush Trefoil Guild was registered in Bendigo on 18/06/1981.The decision to disband the Merle Bush Trefoil Guild was made at a General Meeting on 17/02/2016. The group agreed to continue as the Merle Bush Friendship Group. The Australian Trefoil Guilds connect women who are either actively involved in Girl Guiding or have a history with Girl Guiding.
