This is a brochure commemorating the arrival in Australia of John and Isabella McLeod and the unveiling of a plaque at the Immigrants Wall in Portland in 2015. The Immigrants Wall is located in Bentinck Street in Portland, Victoria and was a Glenelg Shire Bicentenary Project to enable descendants of those who first set foot on Australian soil at Portland to commemorate this event by placing a memorial plaque on the wall. John and Isabella McLeod were two of these immigrants to come to Portland in 1854. They came from the Isle of Raasay in Scotland and they and their families settled in areas around Warrnambool (Purnim, Port Fairy, Framlingham, Rosebrook etc)This brochure is of some interest as giving some information on John and Isabella McLeod and their families who came to Portland in 1854 and settled in areas around Warrnambool. This is a brochure produced for the Owens of Warrnambool Farm and Workshop Expo. The story of Owens of Warrnambool began in the 1880s when Flett and Hopkins began a plumbing and blacksmith business in Lava Street. In the early 1900s the business was taken over by Bruce and McClure who added a foundry and produced and serviced farm equipment. In 1945 the business was purchased by four Owen brothers. In 1953 the business became known as Owens of Warrnambool. In 1987 the business was purchased by Alan Lane and following his death in 1995 the business became part of the Alan Lane Foundation. In 2000 the business was transferred to Caramut Road. This brochure is of some interest as it contains information on Owens of Warrnambool, a prominent business in Warrnambool today and one with a significant history in the city. Lake Pertobe in Warrnambool is a former swamp area which was transformed into a recreational area and children’s playground in the 1970s. The reserve is a popular spot for bird watching with over 80 species found in the vicinity. The Mount Beauty Chalet was built by the State Electricity Commission as accommodation for single staff working on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. Towards the end of the completion of the Scheme the chalet was used for accommodating tourists. The Kiewa Valley has promoted itself as a tourist hot spot since the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme concluded. Mt Beauty began as a construction town and was to be sold off but tourism became promising so the SECV handed the town over to the Bright Shire, houses were sold and businesses commenced. From the early 1960s the town promoted itself and Falls Creek as a tourist destination. The Kiewa Valley Accommodation group combined with the local advertisers to publish this brochure.This brochure promotes tourism all year round promoting the local businesses enabling them to succeed. As tourism is the main industry in Mt Beauty and Falls Creek since the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme finished, this advertising is important. Southern Hydro Ltd. was established in the late 1990s as a result of the disaggregation of the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria. It operates 10 power stations mainly in the north-east of VictoriaSouthern Hydro continued to encourage tourism as did the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria. This brochure is very similar to one previously published by the SECV "Victoria's Hydro Power" except only including those that it operates. Within the KHES the power stations were McKay Creek, Clover and West Kiewa. Victorian Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VIOSH) Australia is the Asia-Pacific centre for teaching and research in occupational health and safety (OHS) and is known as one of Australia's leaders on the field. VIOSH has a global reputation for its innovative approach within the field of OHS management. VIOSH had its first intake of students in 1979. At that time the Institution was known as the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. In 1990 it became known as Ballarat University College, then in 1994 as University of Ballarat. It was 2014 that it became Federation University. VIOSH Australia students are safety managers, senior advisors and experienced OHS professionals. They come from all over Australia and industry.
