Fixed to the inside front cover, is a prize certificate from the School of Mines and Industries, Bendigo, on which is written: Session 188, Mechanical Drawing Junior Division, Fourth Prize awarded to Thomas Barry. Signed A. Bayne President, A. Brough Smyth, Director. W.H. Ed Nicolai, Instructor. Thomas was a student at the Bendigo School of Mines. In May 1885, Thomas was awarded fourth prize for Mechanical Drawing, Junior Division. Presentation certificate inside front cover reads, presented to Mr.G.A.Pethard by the members of the Mount Pleasant Glee class on his leaving Ballarat for Warragul, as a small token of esteem. Ballarat 20th May 1887. Some of the items in the Pethard Collection were donated by Barbara Bessley. The donor worked for the trustee for the Pethard Estate and to prevent the material being disposed of, she retained it. George Pethard, in his role as Mayor of Bendigo, was active in community organisations and was a member of a contingent which travelled overseas to promote Victoria. Back to Port Melbourne celebrations were an early type of Port Melbourne Festival.One of two festival badges from 1932 : tin, white, printed in brown: "Back to Port Melbourne - Admit to Gymkhana on Station Pier - Afternoon & Evening - Mayor's Appeal", identical except for date: one April 7th", this one May 7th".
