This depot operated from 1937 to 1966. Wangaratta Historical Society
The Wangaratta Historical Society Inc. (WHS) was established in 1959 and moved into its present home in the 1970s. Wangaratta in North East Victoria has a population of over 27 thousand people and is situated at the junction of the King and the Ovens Rivers. Agriculture has always been a big part of its history as well as education, health and manufacturing. The museum was originally a fire station built 1895 and included living quarters for its staff. The building is owned by the Rural City of Wangaratta who are great supporters of the WHS The museum was bequeathed 10,000 glass negatives from the late 1800s to the 1950s these were by the Vine & Thelma studios of mostly, portraits, weddings and historical photos. Also owned by the WHS is the Maianne Gibson crazy patchwork quilt made by a Wangaratta woman in the 1890s and now Heritage listed. This Quilt is housed in an specially controlled conditions. The Wangaratta Historical Society Museum was accredited in 2012 under the Museums Accreditation Program. -

An article from the Melbourne Legacy Bulletin about Legatee Jim Gillespie being honoured by RMIT naming a building after him. Date is not known but likely to be 1969 or 1970. The article mentions 'an honour was conferred on Legatee (Past President) Jim Gillespie when the Governor and Lady Delacombe opens a new wing of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and called it 'The Gillespie Wing". The magnificent building of 12 stories accommodates 2490 persons (2290 students and 200 staff). A page of the programme was set out to list Jim's decorations, war service, and professional achievements and awards and his immense contribution to the RMIT extending over more than 30 years. Also that in 1968 in recognition of his proud record of service to the profession he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Institution of Surveyors Australia, and is the only person to be so honoured at the time. The article was written by JHBA (Legatee Brian Armstrong). The article was part of an album of past presidents from 1965 to 1989. The folder included biographical details and obituaries, eulogies and death notices of prominent Legatees. Black and white photograph, mounted onto heavy stippled card of the SEC Ballarat tram crews shortly before the closure of the tramway system in front of the depot building with three tramcars behind. Has a printed list of all employees or staff underneath. Titled "Ballarat Tramways Employees 1971". Photograph on light stipple paper. Features 61 personnel but only 60 apparently named. Three issues of "Tram Tracks - The Electric Traction Monthly" of the Australian Electric Traction Association. Each issue has a standard cover, of the magazine name etc, with a small advertisement for the Model Dockyard but are in different colours, all have been saddled stapled with two staples. The Volume and date details have been over stamped using a hand stamp. Back covers, inside back covers have the same advertisements. The three issues contain advertisements for Hartleys Sports store, Hearns Hobbies, Wattle Park, Johnson's Variety Store, Barnes Tennis Centre, The Model Dockyard, Meadmore Model Engineering and Austral Bronze Pty Ltd, Christie Scale Model Railway and Equipment, Herbert Small (Meccano) and Bassett-Lowke Models. 2464.1 - Vol. 1, No. 6 - 12 pages, Oct. 1946, with cover printed in blue. Has articles on staff and ticket working on VR tramways, Tramway rolling stock classification, rolling stock listing for SEC Bendigo, and the first 65 years of electric traction. Undated list of personally owned furnishings at Holmbush found in a file next to letters dated 1943. The piano, musical cabinet, card tables, fire fender and fire irons, wireless, and kerosene refrigerator give an indication of how homes were furnished at the time. Mr Bert Frank was appointed to the role of manager of the Legacy Club Hostel in March 1943 (see 00355.1) and details of his application for the role is also in the archive at 00351. As were the times the wife of the successful applicant was automatically assumed to be working as well but without the acknowledgement of a hired position. As it was a live-in position perhaps this list recorded their personal contents to avoid disputes later on. Legatee Carleton is mentioned as who supplied the fender and fire irons.Demonstrates the frugality with which the first Melbourne Legacy hostel was furnished.
