Linton State School cantata group, trained by Miss Barry for a school concert. This is one of several copies of the photograph of the cantata group in the LDHS collection. This one may have belonged to Alwyn Roberts, and it is understood that he provided the list of names to go with it. (This is the most complete set of names that we have for this photo.) Found in the loft of Bank of N.S.W, Linton 1980s.Certifies that Charles Barrett of Buninyong is the proprietor of one share (no. 996) in the "Temperance Crystal Malt Ale Company Limited, Buninyong. Signed by Theo(?) Daniel and David Phelan, Directors, and by Charles Barrett, Secretary, dated 27 April 1898. Cream coloured paper with printed green border, purple printing. "BUNINYONG" printed across top and bottom borders, and "VICTORIA" printed on left and right-side borders. No. of issue 114. Certificate crossed in red ink top to bottom, with words "Issued as Fully Paid Up" handwritten in red ink. Serrated left edge of certificate suggests it was detached from a booklet or form. 'Form of Transfer' printed on back of certificate shows that the share was transferred by Charles Barrett to Nora Burnside of Linton. Dating the photograph: This copy of the photograph (Registration no. 2015-12) was donated in 2014 by Peter Stapleton, who understood it was taken in 1919. Pale green, five-page booklet, programme for the Linton St Patrick's Day Trotting Club annual meeting, held Saturday March 10th, 1923. Lists names of Trotting Club officials and judges. The ribbon is a souvenir of the first 'Australia Day', held 30 July 1915. This was not the celebration of nationhood as we know it today, but a national fundraising effort during World War I. Across Australia, this day was set aside for fundraising to assist wounded soldiers returning to Australia during WWI. In Linton Australia Day 1915 was celebrated with a jumble sale, raffles, and the collection of donations. There was also a stall outside the Shire Offices, attended by a group of girls dressed as Red Cross nurses, which sold flowers, postcards, toys and souvenirs. Mrs Surman, then Stella Todd, was one of this group of girls, along with her sister Millie Todd. (See photograph, Registration no. 055.) The epergne was presented to Amelia Jane Donaldson (wife of Dr J.B. Donaldson Snr) "as a mark of esteem" by friends at the Presbyterian Church in 1907. Dr James Blair Donaldson had a medical practice in Linton from about 1889 until 1920, when his son, also named James Blair Donaldson, took it over.Silver-plate epergne for holding flowers. Epergne has a round base, and six branches radiating from a central stem. Branches each have a funnel-shaped small swirled-glass insert for holding flowers, while central stem has a matching, but larger glass vase insert.Engraved on base of epergne: "Presented to Mrs. J.B. Donaldson by her friends of the Presbyterian Church, Linton, as a mark of esteem. 26-4.07". This image was copied in 2020 from a facebook post by Marcia Penny, a descendant of Linton's Craine family. Information with the image on facebook said the original photograph had been in a McIntyre family album (the McIntyre family was connected to the Craine family by marriage).Digital copy of an original photograph and its mounting card, which shows a coach drawn by two horses. Photograph is dated between 1901 and 1914 (James Nelson Undertaker in premises next to library - he took over business there in 1901 and died in 1914, after which business became 'Nelson Bros. Undertakers').This is the earliest detailed photograph of the Linton library building that is in the LDHS collection, although the building can be glimpsed in other photographs of Sussex Street.Postcard - Sepia photograph of Linton Public Library building in Sussex Street, Linton. Photograph of teachers and pupils of Linton State School, taken in 1914. Teachers are identified in an inscription on the back of the photograph. Photograph is dated by the inscription, which identifies the head teacher as "Mr Dugard". Mr A. Duguard was head teacher for only one term in 1914. Note: Teacher Annie Sandow is also named in the inscription on the back of the photo as "Mrs Cull", as she married George Cull in 1915. Stone mileposts dating from the 1870s are found on the Glenelg Highway. Stone and iron mileposts are now a rarity, and have remanining markers have become a tourist attaction in many smaller towns with remnant markers. The stone mileposts on the Glenelg Highway are listed on the Victorian Heritage Reigister as being significant to the State of Victoria. Their primary purpose is to inform the travelling public of distances and directions to various destinations.
