The town was built on a paddock so gardening was popular amongst the population.The residents of Mt Beauty created gardens for their new homes and were encouraged to enter competitions for the best flowers etc.. In 1933 the population of Panmure was 273. The Sunbury factory provided employment for the town's population which was increasing.
