Set of three items associated with a letter from Ken Craven, Secretary of the AETA to John Belot. .1 - White DL size envelope with the five of the Oct 1989 Historic Tramway Stamps with the tram cancellation stamp dated 11 October 1989. Has the "Australia's Historic Tramways" logo in the lower left hand corner, hand addressed to John Belot and the stamp for the stamp show Melbourne 18-22 October 1989 in the bottom right hand corner. On the rear has details of the stamp issue, W.K. Craven's address stamp, and two cancellation stamps - Blackburn 11 Oct. 1989 and Caulfield Post Office stamp. .2 - Handwritten letter from Ken Craven, Secretary of the AETA to John Belot, noting the exhibition at Box Hill and his forthcoming trip to NZ and the Transport Art ticket enclosed. .3 - Transporting Art tram No. 13 ticket No. 0085, dated 17th July 1989, Jenyns tram (Lorraine and Bob). Kix was first manufactured by Clark King & Co.after World War II. The offices were located in 237 Queen Street Melbourne. Clark, King &Co Pty Ltd started business in the early 1920's and were known as the poultry food specialist. The head of the firm, Mr Clive Harrison Clark was know as a successful poultry farmer and exhibitor of prize birds, he was the secretary of the Brighton Poultry Society.KIX was used by citizens of MoorabbinA yellow heavy cardboard container with metal swivel top containing a white powder. Front: KIX - STRONGEST - INSEDTICIDE - keeps on killing - FLEAS - SILVERFISH - BUGS - LICE - MOTHS - ANTS - COCKROACHES - FOR DOGS, CATS AND ALL ANIMALS BACK: DIRECTIONS Fleas and Lice. Kix keeps on killing fleas and lice for weeks. An occasional dusting will FLEA-PROFF dogs and cats. Dust Kix on the hair of dogs commencing at the neck and ru it in with the fingers. If the dog appears irritated after treatment, it will be due to the efforts of fleas to escape and indicates both the effectiveness of Kix and the necessity of treatment. Sprinkle Kix on the head and neck of cats and rub well in. Use Kix on poultry also. The Ballarat School of Mines was created in 1870, and developed to become the educational facility it is today. Richard W. Richards was Principal of the school in 1958. This letter is from the Young Anglican Fellowship, Ballarat Zone Council's secretary Ian Thompson, thanking Principal of the School of Mines, for the loan of a work-bench to create a Begonia Festival float. The Begonia Festival is an annual Ballarat Festival, that began in 1953 to celebrate the eponymous flower. The book was collated by Debbie Hall. Orbost Fire brigade was founded in 1919. The first captain was George Hodgson, assisted by Lieutenant Reg Macalister, Secretary J.F.McCoy and fifteen members. .As there was no fire station the ree l ( a cast off fro m the Bairnsdale Brigade ) w as kep t in the shed at the back of the Council Chambers until the present Station was built in 1922 in its present location in Gladstone Street, Orbost. This book is a written record of the first one hundred years of the Orbost Fire Brigade.Two copies of a paperback book with a white cover and red print. This is a photograph of Orbost Shire Councillor Henry James J.P. who represented Central Riding 1902-1905 and 1916-1927. Henry James (1860-1932) was a well-known identity in the Orbost district. He was a stock agent and auctioneer who helped to establish the seed bean industry in Orbost. He was the second secretary of the Snowy River Shipping Co. as well as a shire councillor and prominent member of MUIOOF.This item is associated with the Orbost Shire Council. The shire covered an area of 9,347 square kilometres and existed from 1892 until 1994 when it became part of the East Gippsland Shire Council. Cheetham book, 1898
James Cheetham was both secretary of the Shire of Bet Bet and a councillor for the Borough of Tarnagulla. He was the Mayor of Tarnagulla for four years. James also entered the Victorian parliament and was the MLA for the Dunolly Electorate from 1 April 1889 to 1 June 1890. This meant he was holding three positions at the same time. James died in 1890 from injuries received in a buggy accident. Murray Comrie Collection. A notebook associated with the Cheetham family of Tarnagulla. Some parts have been used as a school exercise book (writing practise, latin verbs, grammar rules) others have been used for early drafts of official letters relating to Council business, mostly in 1898. Also contains a child's drawings. Some pages are cut or torn. Author of letter drafts is J.D. Cheetham. The child/school parts are probably all by Annie M. Richard Hartley Smith Abbott was the step son of Joseph Henry Abbott and inherited his families business interests, building successful commercial enterprises such as Abbott Supply Co. He was elected a representative in the Mandurang riding in the Shire of Strathfieldsaye in 1887, served as Mayor of the City of Bendigo from 1917 - 1918 and a member of the legislative Council of Victoria. A letter dated 21st September 1928 written by P.W. Powell with his recollections of the first years of Melbourne Legacy. Legatee Powell was the first Honorary Secretary of the Club, attending the first meeting in September 1923 when the office bearers were appointed and the name of the Club discussed. This clock was originally in the front Office of the Soldiers Memorial Institute Bendigo on the mantlepiece of the fireplace. Original donor or date of being placed is unknown. It was last used in 2005 by Jack Barnes OAM who wound it every day he was in the Office, he was Secretary for 43 years of the BRSL. Dress owned by Catherine Ann Windsor (Kitty) (born 23 Nov 1919 died 17 Nov 2002) in the 1930s/1940s. She was grandmother of Rachael Cottle, Whitehorse Historical Society Secretary (2011-2016). Catherine was the gate-keeper at the Tunstall (Nunawading) railway gates at Springvale Road during 1934-1952. A house was supplied for the gatekeeper. The gates were closed to traffic from midnight to 5 am.Dress with elastic shirring top and frilled neckline with puff sleeves. Rayon material. Currency - Australian One Dollar Note, Gordon Andrews, 1966-1984
Circulated between 1966 and 1984, the one dollar bank note was issued following Australia's switch to decimal currency. It was later replaced by the dollar coin. Legal tender throughout the Commonwealth of Australia and the territories of the Commonwealth. Issued by the Reserve Bank of Australia, with the signatures of both the Governor of the Reserve Bank (J.G.Phillips), and the Secretary to the Treasury (R.J.Randall) noted on the obverse. Australian one dollar notes carry individual serial numbers.Demonstrates the one dollar note as it was circulated in Australia between 1966 and 1984. It represents currency used by Ballarat passengers to pay their tram fares, and received by SEC Ballarat Tramway crews/staff in wage packets.Orange, yellow and brown minted note on white treated paper. The obverse depicts Queen Elizabeth the II, the Australian Coat of Arms and the "1" denoting value.
