This note to the local milkman was associated with the milk bottle from the Wattle Park Dairy, which was purchased by Robin Kelly from a home in Surrey Hills in the 1970's or 1980's. This dairy was established by Horrie Breeden. The Breeden family came to Surrey Hills in 1905, first to Guildford Road, then Middlesex Road where Horrie Breeden lived as a boy. He sometimes used to help with milking at the adjoining Kenneally's dairy in Highfield Road. Sometimes he and his brother drove the cows from there to Schneider's property near Florence Road on the way to Surrey Hills Primary School. The cows would graze here until the boys took them back after school. At other times he would deliver milk from the Croydon Road dairy (Isherwood's or Bovill's) to St Joseph's Boys Home before school. Horrie became an apprentice in woodwork / carpentry at Vine's timber yard before serving in World War 1. Horrie's father died in 1919 and in the same year he bought 3 cows and established his own dairy on his mother's property on the corner of Goodwood Street and Boisdale Road. In the 1920s Horrie built the first house in Goodwood Street. He went on to build others in the street including his own at No 7 Goodwood Street. He did all the joinery and internal fittings for this. In those days home deliveries were comparatively informal. This note to the milkman is material evidence of this. According to the Australian War Memorial website, the photographer was David Tennant Gaery Eastman and the photo was taken on 9 March 1945. In the AWM collection there is also a photo of members of the platoon at the unit slaughter yards in Milne Bay, New Guinea (REF: AWM 0703790). He had multiple copies of this photo, which may have been obtained with the aim of distributing them to other platoon members. Leslie George Lobb - born 15 July 1920 in Box Hill; married Elizabeth Annie Stephenson in 1954; died 14 Nov. 1997. Leslie became a service station / garage proprietor at 352 Mont Albert Road, Mont Albert a business he took over from his father. An associated mechanical business operated under the name of Leo Green Motors, at the same address. The family lived next door at 354 Mont Albert Road, Mont Albert. Leslie's father Harry Lobb had operated at an adjoining property (350 Mont Albert Road, Mont Albert) as a fuel and ice merchant, before installing a petrol bowser to service the expanding motor car industry. The house at 354 Mont Albert Road, Mont Albert was removed and relocated by the family in 2000 to Mirboo North, Gippsland, Victoria, where it still stands.The photo is a touchstone to local servicemen who served in World War 2.A B&W / sepia photo with a narrow white border of 25 men in uniform. This photo was taken by Victor Cattoni of Ingham in Queensland when he was in Melbourne on his honeymoon in 1953. The donor (his son) knew of no connection between his father and the Conlon family. Victor and his wife, Julia, travelled to Melbourne on the 'Mananda', which had been converted into a hospital ship in 1940. Victor was a motor mechanic and business man in Ingham and later a sugarcane farmer at nearby Abergowrie. Conlon's bread factory was located at 410-412 Canterbury Road on the corner of The Avenue. The site was purchased in 1927 by Michael Conlon and the factory built in 1928/1929. The original Conlon bakery was at 108 Union Road. This became to retail shop until the 1940s with the family involved in both the bakery and the shop. The photo is representative of the era when home deliveries by horse and cart were made by local traders including the baker, green grocer and dairy man. The local Bulla CFA were invited to come to the Bulla Primary School and talk to the children about the importance of their task in the area. Jack McKenzie is showing the little girl how to hold the fire hose. Jack McKenzie was a local Bulla resident and a CFA volunteer for many years. The children were at a district sport's day which took place at the MIckleham sports ground. Bulla School competed with other local small rural schools which included MIckleham, Yuroke, KalKallo, Greenvale and Craigieburn. In the early 1990s extensive work work was done to the outdoor areas of the Bulla Primary School, which included a school garden and modern playground equipment. The photograph shows three pieces of the equipment installed in the playground, namely a slide, a climbing frame and balancing equipment. The improvements to the outdoor area at Bulla Primary School gave the students a wider range of extra-curricular activities. Students from Bulla and MIckleham Primary Schools attended a camp at Beechworth in 1988 where they undertook a number of different outdoor activities such as busk walking, fishing, visits to the Chinese Cemetery and boomerang throwing. In this photograph the children met with one of the local First Nation's people and were shown the art of boomerang throwing. Children from Bulla and MIckleham Primary schools attend a camp at Beechworth in 1988. While there they experienced a number of varied activities as part of their outdoor education course. The photograph was taken in 1989 when the children in grades 4 an 5 attended a school camp at Gundiwindi, which is in the Yarra Valley on the border of Wandin and Nth. Silvan. At the camp the children were acquainted with the skills used by the local indigenous people. The children and adults were at a working bee at Bulla Primary School and this group were concentrating on repairing some of the school's playground equipment. Some of the students from Bulla Primary School were taken to the local recreation ground to meet the former councillor. Pauline De Luca who was there to 'turn the first sod at the site'. The work was done by the former Bulla Shire Council on the Bulla Community Centre. The students from Bulla Primary School were taken on an excursion to Gellibrand Hill, a native parkland near Bulla. They did tree-planting and were taken for a ride around the park in the conservation and environment truck. The wheat silo was erected on railway land on the west side of the railway line at Sunbury from approx 1970s - 1980s. It served as a grain storage provision for the local cereal farmers.The former CFA depot which was in Evans Street. The Sunbury News Office was established by the Boardman family initially in Brook Street closer to the station. In 1880 Arthur Boardman opened a bookshop and news agency and in 1882, he printed the first issue of the Sunbury News.The building was on the SW corner of Brook and O'Shanassy Streets. Members of the Boardman family also ran the adjacent business. The first building which housed Sunbury State School No.1002 was built on the corner of Macedon and Stawell Streets in the early 1870s and functioned as the local State School until 1912 when a sturdier red brick structure replaced on the same site. In 1999 Sunbury State School was relocated in the former Industrial School heritage buildings in Jacksons Hill. The existing building in Macedon Street was incorporated into the Sunbury Community Health Centre. The school in the photograph is the original Sunbury State School NO. 1002 building, where many early Sunbury residents attended.
