Princes Court was an amusement park in Melbourne, located on St Kilda Road. Established in 1904, it closed its doors in 1909 after poor ticket sales due to Melbourne's temperamental weather. The park featured a toboggan ride and water chute ride where patrons inside open carriages were plunged down sloping structures from a height at great speeds. The park's other facilities and activities included a rifle range, a tug of war game, a Japanese tea house, a wine bar, a variety show, an open air cinema, and roller skating and bicycle races.This item contributes to our understanding of social life and recreation in early twentieth century Victoria. The Terminus Hotel was one of the earliest hotels in Wodonga, with clear links to the establishment of the railway line. It was an important business and meeting place from the original construction in 1873 until 1st June 1998 the Terminus Hotel when it was destroyed by fire. It provided a popular venue for social activities, including competitive darts, both through its own competition and as part of the Albury-Wodonga District Darts Association. The remains of the building were demolished in 1999. This is perpetual trophy for the Terminus Dart club based at the Terminus Hotel in Wodonga. This trophy recognises the winners of the Albury-Wodonga Darts Association Premiers 1985.The Terminus Hotel was an important meeting place in Wodonga for more than 100 years. Photos show men in chefs hats and people sitting under picnic umbrellas. In 1975 the Bulletin mentions a BBQ for legatees at Stanhope, it may have been an annual event. The Comradeship committee, including Fred Holdsworth gathered photos of events and compiled them in a Comradeship photo album for Legatees to look through. A script parodying the stage show 'Diggers' with which Pat Hanna entertained post WWI audiences. The parody adapts the 'Diggers' format to Legacy activities such as the girls' physical culture class, and reflects the mores of the times. There is no indication of date, but the design and writing style is similar to 01292, written in 1930. Pat Hanna (born George Patrick Hanna; 18 March 1888 in Whitianga, New Zealand) was a New Zealand-born film producer ; he was a soldier of the First World War who entertained postwar audiences with the stage show 'Diggers', that was adapted to a film of the same title in 1931. The Answer is a newsletter in magazine format that is sent to the widows that are helped by Melbourne Legacy. For the widows who are sight impaired a copy of the newsletter is audio described onto CD by Vision Australia and posted to them. It contains information about meetings and activities. This edition contained articles on the Queenscliff camp, Anzac Student ceremony, Glenelg River canoe journey, donation in memory of Private Greg Sher, and Widows' High Tea. Also the history of the Battle of Lone Pine and the Lone Pine trees grown in Australia since. Public lectures were a common activity in Bacchus Marsh in the early 1900s. These were usually held in the Mechanics Institute Hall in Main Street, or in the Australian Natives Association (ANA) Hall also in Main Street Bacchus Marsh. This ticket is a typical example of the elaborate design used for invitations at this time. This lecture was promoted as an 'illustrated lecture'. In this instance it was according to contemporary newspaper reporting a lecture which included a series of 'lantern views'. These were pictures—paintings, prints, or photographs—on transparent plates (usually made of glass), and were then projected for viewing through an image projector commonly called a 'magic lantern'. The postcard shows St Vincent's Hospital, on the northern side of Victoria Parade, Fitzroy, circa 1914. At left is the original hospital building, a converted terrace house, alongside the first purpose-built wing opened 1905 and the Cullen Wing (with facilities for medical students and residents) on the right. A group of two men and three boys stands on the footpath outside the Cullen Wing and a car is parked outside the main hospital building in the centre of the photograph. The name "Mooroolbark" was to be popularised with eventual European settlement in the late 19thy century. A rural hub developed around the train station, which opened in 1887 and offered rail access to Melbourne, with the Post Office opened shortly after in 1888. In this video presentation, Marion Stott, OAM, President and Founding Member of the Mooroolbark History Group, provides "Then and Now" details of all this and more. As well as activities in promoting local history, Marion is actively involved in local RSL, Traders group, and community events including Mooroolbark Red Earth Festival. For services to the community of Mooroolbark, Marion was awarded an OAM in 2020.

Primary trip to Greensborough Shopping Centre, August, 1982 Photos indicate that this may have included an art activity creating puppets with recycled materials. The Stokes family settled in this area of Eltham in the 1940s and were associated with the Eltham Christian Church. In the 1970s this church had met in temporary premises in Eltham. Lots of the original 1920s subdivision remained south of Nyora Road and a number of these lots were utilized for the Eltham Christian School, which was established by the Eltham Christian Church in 1981. The school operated on this site until 2000. The premises were owned by the Nillumbik Community Church who were in operation till November 2010 when the Eltham Baptist Church commenced a lease arrangement until the site was purchased by them in April 2012. The building is constructed of brick and timber with a balcony on two sides that looks over an expanse of grass. River of Life and Hiroshima Day Banners The River of Life and Hiroshima Day banners were specific peace projects initiated by the CAO and taken up by Eltham Living & Learning Centre and funded by the Victorian Peace Secretariat for IYP. The project was transferred from the Centre to Tracey as part of her artist in the community portfolio. Tracey, as CAO, employed Jacky Talbot, who was not familiar with Eltham but was an experienced community arts worker personally interested in textiles and peace. The project was publicised and a peace banner group formed. Only two of the women knew each other. They had come together from a need to do something for peace, rather than to learn about textiles. Jacky Talbot shared Elizabeth Savage's approach to the banner. She was not 'a peace-expert' and did not want to be seen as such by the group. Like Elizabeth Savage she wanted to encourage an expression of peace as it was perceived by the group. Jacky showed slides of peace images and peace banners. Textile workshops were interspersed with discussions about peace, one of which was led by a local People for Nuclear Disarmament member. The idea for the banner occurred during one of these discussions. One of the women began to talk about feeling like a drop of water lost in the river of life - yet rivers were made of countless droplets which, when joined together, became the powerful force of the river. This group quickly established a commitment, not only to peace, but to the group itself, and this has continued beyond the project. The women, as is the case with many of the groups in the Banner Project, were really surprised at their increasing textile skills and self-confidence. But they were more concerned with their commitment to peace. Each is continuing to find ways in which she can continue to work for peace, and activities are undertaken on a group basis as well. The decision to participate in the group based activities is up to each woman as the time arises. The banner and some members of the group have now participated in the Peace Boogie at the World Trade Centre, the Peace Arts Conference organised by Art Action for Peace, Melbourne City Council's Peace Vigil weekend, Women's Precious Things for Peace Day exhibition and the banner was ' hung at the Footscray Community Arts Centre when the other textile peace mural Jacky co-ordinated was opened. One woman wrote a poem about the project and peace; others have sent telegrams and letters to politicians about peace. A great deal of information about peace and other activities, articles, books, media programs were circulated amongst the group. The Hiroshima Day Banner was made by Jacky Talbot as part of the project. The women wanted to do something for Hiroshima Day and suggested that a workshop be set aside to make a banner. The artist was concerned about the remaining time scheduled for the project and spent several days "whipping" up the banner herself. For the artist this banner was to prove quite significant. The women hung it at the Community Notice Board on Hiroshima Day and were photographed by the local newspaper publicising the group and drawing wider community attention to the remembrance of the day. Although no new members joined the group from this activity, the artist felt that she was more fully accepted by the group afterwards. This banner has initiated a small group of women committed to peace. The artist has also continued to liaise and meet with the women as time permits. Future group plans include: making kimonos to wear when carrying the banner, participating in the Palm Sunday March, an observance of Hiroshima Day activity, which is yet to be decided, establishing contact with a sister-town in USA and USSR and supporting Eltham Council's stance as a Nuclear Free Zone. This photograph was probably taken at the site of McKay Creek Power Station. Excavation of this site did not commence until 1951 but road access(a narrow track) was provided in 1948 and widened in 1954. The logs would have been milled for timber at the State Electricity Commission's mill at Howman's Gap and thus provided a much needed source of timber for construction of camps and houses as there was a general of shortage of this commodity. Because of trouble with landslides in this area, a decision was made to place the machine hall of the power station underground instead of on the surface. Restricted financial resources and the repositioning of the power station retarded construction activities and it was not completed until early 1961.. CityMission Retirement Village, also known as Eltham Retirement Centre, also formerly known as Judge Book Memorial Village, was officially opened on Sunday 28 October 1956. This history documents the first thirty years through to 1986. Founded by the Melbourne City Mission, the significant early history of the "village for the aged" is documented including the various challenges faced including ongoing expansions and building develoment needs and impacts of flooding from the nearby Diamond Creek. Andrew George Scott, also known as Captain Moonlite, was an Australian bushranger. Born in the 1840s, he was hanged in New South Wales in 1880 for the shooting of Constable Edward Webb-Bowen after a series of robberies and a shoot out with police near Wagga Wagga. Aside from his crimes and activities as a bushranger under the alias Captain Moonlite, Scott is also known for his relationship with his companion James Nesbitt. Many claim Nesbitt was Scott's partner and lover. Zilles Printers was begun by Lewis Zilles in the early 1930s. It was in McKenzie Street Ballarat. His son Jeffrey also became a printer - letterpress, offset and screen printer. The business became Zilles Printers/Graphics and was in Armstrong Street and later Bell Street Ballarat. Lewis Zilles was in Brass Bands and on the Ballarat Begonia Festival Committee. As part of their activities they held the Highland Gathering, another interest of his. The Ballarat Municipal Band Certificate is the awarding of Life Membership. Trooper C. Ellison, a member of the 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles Heritage Troop participating in a display of tent-pegging at a local show. The Heritage Troop of 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles was a very public face of the regiment during the 1980s and early 1990s. It conducted one royal escort, several vice-regal escorts and numerous VIP escorts in the border, north-east and wider Victorian locations. The royal duty was at the opening of Hopkins Barracks, Puckapunyal by HRH Prince Charles accompanied by HRH Princess Diana, 31 October 1985. Wreath laying ceremony for widows at the Cenotaph at the Shrine of Remembrance in 2000. This is an annual event for Legacy widows at the start of Legacy Week, which is the first week in September. Sometimes referred to as Pilgrimage to the Shrine, there was usually a church service, a service at the Shrine and a lunch afterwards. Tilly Aston was a writer, educator and social reformist for blind and visually impaired people. Her desire to overcome the limitations in her own life, and that of others, led to the establishment of the Victorian Braille Writers Association (later the Braille Library of Victoria) and the Association for the Advancement of the Blind (later Association for the Blind). When the Kooyong site of the AFB required redevelopment due to the success of activities at Paterson Hall, a new building was constructed and named the H.M. Lightfoot Centre.
