Dora Walker was a student of Milverton school, one of the Ladies Schools, a branch of the Ladies Harbour Light's Guild. Amy Dora Walker (known as Dora) of East Malvern married Harold Priestley Simpson of Surrey Hills on 14 February 1928. The bride's maids were Ella Kendall and Molly Walker. The article in the Herald of the day describes the event: "WEDDING AT SEAMEN'S CHAPEL Reception at Hotel Windsor The pretty little chapel at the Sea men's Institute was packed with interested friends this afternoon, when Miss Dora Walker, one of the Mission's most enthusiastic and efficient voluntary helpers, chose it as the setting for her marriage with Mr H. P. Simpson, son of Mr and Mrs J. H. Simpson, of Mornington. A group of her fellow workers decorated the chapel with lovely pink and white gladioli, carnations and roses. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. R. Weller, chaplain of the Mission, and the bride was given away by her father, Mr A. W. Walker, of Manning road, East Malvern. She wore a lovely ivory georgette frock, the finely tucked skirt being fashioned with a deep transparent hem of Chantilly lace. Over it fell a beautiful Honiton lace veil mounted on tulle and arranged to give the ef fect of a train. Fragrant white roses composed her bouquet. Two attendants followed her down the aisle — her sister, Miss Molly Walker, and Miss Ella Kendall — both wearing dainty shrimp pink georgette frocks and large crinoline straw hats in the same shade with a dainty edging of tulle. They carried bouquets of pink cactus dahlias nnd delphiniums. Mr Louis Buscombe was best man, and Mr George Thompson grooms man. This postcard depicts the urban setting of the Mission to Seafarers a few years after its construction. (the Dome, the last part erected, was opened on 21 October 1921). It demonstrates a lack of urban surrounds or buildings as well as a paved road and a horse-drawn wagon. The figure in the photo is also a record of the dress style of the era. The lady is most likely a member of the Ladies' Harbour Lights Guild.This postcard demonstrates that the building was deemed important enough to be photographed for a postcard. The earliest appearance of these helmets went back as far as 1840 for use in the field and then worn with dress uniform only in the 20th century. The helmet was part of military uniform from 1840 up until the the mid 20th century.Pith Helmet is khaki colour with khaki puggaree, the puggaree has three folds and sewn on the left hand side of the puggaree is a blue white red colour patch. There is a leather band around the brim of the helmet and across the front visor there is a leather chin strap with metal adjustment buckles there is a ball shaped finial in the top of the hat.Handwritten inside the helmet is the name of Sgt. This particular Jacket was issued to VX 33678 Bdr E. O'Shea.Bdr O'Shea served during WW2Khaki Wool cloth Jacket, four patch pockets on the front of the Jacket. The Jacket has two 'Australia' shoulder titles on the epaulets, one only small (king's Crown) rising sun badge on the collar, six small buttons, four small buttons with King's Crown, map of Australia and embossed Australian Military Forces. One small button at the collar. On the right and left sleeve are the colour patch of Artillery. On the right sleeve is the badge of rank of Bombardier and four blue service chevrons. The Jacket would have been made circa 1950's and belonged to a member of the RNZ Artillery.This Jacket belonged to a Captain of the RNZ Artillery.Khaki Service Dress Jacket, pure wool Garbardine, two pleated breast pockets, two pleated map pockets, synthetic lining.Captains badge of Rank, all buttons RNZA, lapel Badges RNZA, Shoulder Patches blue with red writing Royal New Zealand Artillery, on the right sleeve Black Colour Patch and a Parachute Patch. There are six ribbons of decorations above the left breast pocket. A major rebuilding project took place. Brothers John & Thomas Morgan with local storekeeper Harold Goodwin Taylor designing and building a grand new Guest House with 22 bedrooms plus the original bungalows. Unheard of at the time the guests bedrooms had hand basins with hot & cold running water. This was achieved by building a weir on Stony Creek and piping the water to a high holding tank at the guest house. The dining room was a grand affair, a 4.5 metre high ceiling with beautiful gold leaf cornices, art deco ceiling and wall lights with feature plaster lights in the form of blue bells, wall to wall carpet and Kentia palms completed the picture. Ladies & gentlemen dressed for dinner, the ladies resplendent in their long evening gowns and jewellery would come down the stairway from the entrance hall to the lounge then the dining room. The tables were beautifully appointed with damask table cloths & fine silverware. The kitchen was well appointed with a huge coal fired range and a donkey for hot water. Milk & cream, bacon & pork, chicken & eggs together with vegetables were all home grown on the property. A large ballroom with a beautiful timber floor was the scene after dinner for many dances and party nights with guests from other establishments and locals joining in for the night. A huge fernery was also a feature of the gardens.
