The owner of this textbook, Cornelius Cooke Reed, was an early settler. He was born in England and lived and died at Portland, Victoria (ca. 1880 - 23 June 1876). The book was used with gauging tools to calculate the quantity of liquid in a cask or barrel. The calculation could then be used to charge a fee or tax. The book would have been used in the 18th or 19th centuries, when Customs and Tariffs were calculated manually.This book is important for its use in the centuries before modern technology. It was used to calculate the quantity of liquid in a container such as a cask or barrel. It would have been used to work out alcohol taxes or charges for freight and cartage. It represents an early mathematical reference, which was later replaced by slide rules, calculators and computers. The Ballarat School of Mines Model Mine was used to give practical experience to students, as well as to conduct assays for companies and individuals for a fee. The fee assisted in keeping the Ballarat School of Mines afloat in its first years. The Battery, or model mine, included a Stamper Battery, Wilfrey Tables and various pieces of equipment students would encounter in their workplace. A Bread fork was mainly used in Victorian times, when touching food was frowned up. Even in common households, you had to have a bread fork to help yourself to the bread from a bread basket in the middle of table. In this image, store merchandise, including drapery, is hung out to dry after the flood. On 20th August,1909 the Laanecoorie Weir broke away and released 18.3 million cubic metres of water through the opening and causing severe damage to all towns downstream. At Newbridge, Petersen's bakery collapsed and Simpson's Store and Hotel flooded to the roof. The billiard table was later found in a tree five miles down the Loddon near Learmonth. Widows are conducting a sale of craft items in a shopping arcade. It is possible the items sold were those made for the annual Art and Craft Exhibitions. The Legacy signs say "Legacy caring for Australia's biggest family". The trading tables are outside a Boyles Sweets shop and a Franklins No Frills supermarket in an unknown shopping centre. Boyles Sweets closed down by July 1993 so it was before then. Names unknown. This is an annual event for Legacy widows at the start of Legacy Week, which is the first week in September. This bluestone weir is one of two in the same section of Darebin Creek and is a remanent from early farming days. A vineyard was established by Thomas Bear and produced award wining table wines in the 1860-70s. Orange trees were later grown on the slopes below Rockbeare Grove and mixed market gardening was established in this area as the land was progressively sub-divided and leased. Mr. Evans is CEO of Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS), and he is sitting in his office at RDNS Headquarters, 452 St. Kilda Road, Melbourne.Mr. Evans was CEO of Royal District Nursing Service for many years and introduced computers to improve the Payroll system and the Records Department. In his years at RDNS the Service expanded into many suburbs with Centres being built, more cars required, more nurses employed and a rise in patient numbers. He was CEO when RDNS underwent its initial 'Accreditation for 3 years' in 1985.
