Cast brass, about 40mm in diameter with a right angle lug to enable a person to lift the window. Words "Duncan & Fraser" cast around the outside of the device and the words "Adelaide S.A." cast into the centre. Has been drilled with three countersunk holes. Has brown paint on the lifting portion. On the rear, possibly the letters "5L", scratched into the metal. If this is the case, could have indicated the fifth left hand window as an identification of location. Bell portion of a tramcar conductor's bell. Approximately. 100mm diameter, about 35mm deep with a raised or bossed hole at the top 4.5mm at the top. Bell possibly cast or pressed brass, appears to have been damaged or repaired due to excess brass in portion of the bell and on the underside where signs of brass welding are apparent. If from a horse tram, would have most likely been made by Duncan and Fraser of Adelaide SA. A double deck horse drawn tram with single saloon. drop ends, stairs, longitudinal seats, sliding doors, wheels of cast iron, hand brakes - see notes. Originally built by Duncan & Fraser in 1887. Rebuilt by BTPS 1991. From the BTM Fleet page on the website: Built in 1887 by Duncan and Fraser for the Ballaarat Tramway Company Ltd. as a double-decked horse tramcar. One of eight cars which ran as trailers behind electric trams at times of heavy patronage, after takeover and conversion of the horse lines by the Electric Supply Company of Victoria Ltd. in 1905. Withdrawn in the late 1920's when the body shell became a residential outbuilding locally, until retrieved in 1985.
