Mrs. Craine ...This building was owned and lived in from about 1918 by Mrs. Jane Craine and from 1939 by Mrs. Violet Shepherd. Mrs. Craine had a confectionery store, which she ran with the assistance of her daughter Lottie, and under Mrs. Shepherd it became a greengrocery as well as a confectionery store. It was afterwards used as a private residence, and for a brief period in 2016-2017 it was the site of the 'Linton Bazaar'. Note: A photograph in the LDHS collection (Registration no. 2017-230), understood to have been taken c.1939, shows a substantially different facade. This photograph was taken by Gary Hunt in 2014.One of three colour photographs printed on a single sheet of photographic paper. The photograph shows a small weatherboard house with two gables built at different angles. The house is painted a light brown colour and with a red corrugated iron roof. The smaller section of the house on the right of the photo has a bull-nose verandah. It records through photographs sporting teams such as football, basketball, softball, hockey and baseball. There are also staff photographs and lists of staff and their duties. The articles have been written by staff and students around topics such as sporting successes and events and excursions and notes written about the different students. The technical school taught trade orientated subjects such as dressmaking, plumbing, woodwork, turning and fitting, motor mechanics, commercial and cookery as well as some academic subjects such as English and mathematics.This magazine provides a photographic record of students and staff at one of Warrnambool's largest schools in 1959. It also reflects the types of subjects taught at that time and the many articles written by the students reflect the standard of education and topics which were relevant around the school at that time. Transfers to A.A.S.C on 3.12.1941 then posted to 2/10th Ordnance W/Shops, embark for Malaya 10.1.1942 arriving Singapore 26.1.1942, listed Missing 16.2.1942, listed as POW 13.4.1943, dated 28.9.1945 listed as deceased whilst POW, cause not stated 5.6.1945. A letter to Mrs Sheperd dated 18.1.1946 states died of Malaria. This was from Japanese records mostly. A book with a yellow manilla folder cover titled, ' Willy Wagtails at Glenwynn.' Written by Mrs Margaret Shaw for her grand-nieces and nephews. Included in the book is a newspaper cutting from the 'Bendigo Advertiser' titled, 'For Women by Toora' and dated 20/8/66. The article is headed 'Shepherd Boy's Song Inspired Book Title' and is an account of Miss Margery Shaw's book titled 'Our Goodly Heritage' in which she writes the history of Huntly. Methodist kindergarten Sunday School Pupils in a garden c 1912. It was custom to take the kindgarden Sunday School children (Methodist) before the older senior Sunday school. The picture was taken beside the Anglican church in Dr. Aitkens Garden. Dr. Aitkens dwelling later became the Anglican Manse now demolished and replaced by a new Manse. Adult center back row. Programme - Ephemera, Programme - A children's concert by students of Miss Patience Cornell, 1930
Donation is speculative based on the inclusion of Jocelyn and her sister Lynette Cerini in the list of performers.Beige program printed in black which details the acts of a concert given by the students of Miss Patience Cornell on 19 November 1930 in the Emulation Hall in Canterbury. The concert was a mix of piano solos, recitations and playlets and one-act plays. Ref: Alan Holt records - This property has had a number of different names throughout its history. William Cook, a farmer, bought the land it stands on in 1876. In 1882 he was rated for a house (not the current one) on 11 acres. The present house was built in 1885 by John Clark, an auctioneer. In 1888 the Tower Hill estate and the home (Tower Hill Lodge) were auctioned, but the house was not sold. In 1889 the house was purchased by Captain Shepherd. Records show that in 1894 the owners were Mr Thomas and Mrs Hortenzia Howell. They named the house 'Corcovado'. Later they added a study with a corner designed to provide views from the Dandenong Ranges around to Mt Macedon. In 1944 Mr and Mrs Lionel Adams renamed the house 'Varndean'.This is one of the earliest surviving houses in Surrey Hills.A colour photo taken from the street at the rear of a Victorian-style house with ornate chimneys and a slate roof. A parked car is seen in front of the house. Malcolm Cameron, came from Scotland to Australia with his wife Isabella in 1862. From late 1862 they lived in Bacchus Marsh and remained there for the rest of their lives. After working as a shepherd for some time, Malcolm Cameron was able to acquire land for a farm a few kilometres north west of Bacchus Marsh. The farm was called Glen View but this was later changed to Grand View. It is known to have been a wheat farm. Malcolm Cameron died aged 89 in 1922. His wife died in 1926. Mrs Cameron is presumed to be the woman seated in the photograph and the younger people the Cameron children, Catherine (b.1863), Marion (b.1864)), Mary (b.1867), John (b.1870) and Isabella (b.1872). Small sepia unframed photograph on card with gold border framing photograph. Housed in the album, 'Photographs of Bacchus Marsh and District in 1883 by Stevenson and McNicoll'. The image shows a family group, the Cameron family of Bacchus Marsh, standing and sitting in the garden in front of their farm house. The group comprises four women, a girl, a boy and an elderly man, who is presumed to be Malcolm Cameron. The woman seated in the middle of the group is likely to be Mrs.Cameron. To the left in the picture is a dog. In the background is the weatherboard farm house, a simple construction with two large chimneys and a skillion extension.On the front: Stevenson & McNicoll.
