Item used to simulate or play being a tram conductor, about 15 tickets from each block have been used or removed. Received with a "conductors" badge and cardboard cut out coins. See items 8604 and 8605. Wording and parts of the layout on the ticket typical of a Melbourne tram ticket. Manufacturer not known or the date, possibly mid 1950's based on the cardboard coins. The donor, who lived in Melbourne, recalls that they were part of an outfit which consisted of these items, a conductors cap and bag, similar to a Melbourne conductor's bag. Demonstrates a toy or item used by children to simulate or play being a tram conductor. Heavy cardboard folded to form a tram ticket wallet containing four blocks of tickets, individually numbered. Cap Badge for the Melbourne and Tramway Omnibus Co staff. Has abbreviation of "MTOCo". Made from a cast brass item, nickel plated, part of their uniform. Cast in the form of the handwritten or script word/s and underlined. On the rear, silver soldered on are two brass loops at either of the badge to enable badge to be sewn or fitted with clips onto the cap. No manufacturer's name on the rear of the badge. Photo shows two Victorian Railways tram crew in front of tram 49 at Black Rock. Both are wearing summer jackets with VR badges on both lapels. The Motorman on the left has a Motorman badge and number "26". Shows the style of the VR uniform caps. The conductor though wearing a tie is not a uniform issue style and has a finger shield on his thumb to help with issuing tickets. He became the Australian Open Cornet Champion by the age of eighteen. A year later, Frank conducted the City of Ballarat Band, and later the Ballarat Soldiers’ Memorial Band. He formed the Frank Wright Frisco Band and Frank Wright and his Coliseum Orchestra. These bands won many South Street awards, and Frank as conductor won many awards in the Australian Band Championship contest. In 1933 Frank Wright sailed to England to conduct the famous St Hilda’s Band and was later appointed Musical Director of the London County Council, where he organized many amazing concerts in parks, in and around the London district. He was made Professor of Brass and Military Band Scoring and conducted at the Guildhall of Music and Drama. Frank was often invited to adjudicate Brass Band Championships around Europe, in Australia, including South Street and in New Zealand. Cap or arm Badge for the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria (ESCo) "Conductor" with conductor staff number "17" Made from a manufactured and steel plate, nickel plated to indicate the staff number position held by the wearer as part of their uniform. Letters and number stamped, with horizontal lines. At each side of the badge are vertical holes through which light leather straps have been fixed with button holes to enable securing the badge on an arm. Leather straps black on one side and tan on the other. On the rear, silver soldered on are two loops at each end of the badge to enable badge to be sewn or fitted with clips onto the cap or the uniform. Badge appears in some photos of ESCo staff in the 1900's. On the back of the back of the badge in letters is the name of the manufacturer - "Stokes & Sons".
