The Hallford truck was made by J & E Hall, of Dartford, England, whose business commenced in 1785. In 1926 the Fisher family of Mongan's Bridge took delivery of the 1923 Hallford truck which was used on the farm to transport cream to the Kiewa Butter Factory in Tangambalanga. In 1967, the truck was sold to Mr Greg Bedstead and other members of the Kiewa Valley Historical Society for the KVHS who reimbursed them at a later date. The truck was housed at the Butter Factory for many years and was paraded on special occasions. The truck was purchased for $380. It's chassis no. 2439 and the price included a spare chain. (Ref. E. This truck has historical significance as it is presentative of vehicles which were used by farmers to transport cream to the butter factories by a local family. Furthermore, it has social significance as KVHS members combined their finances to purchase this truck so it would be part of our collection. Milk was delivered by the "milk man" direct to the homes of consumers. Delivery to homes in Orbost and district and was made initially by horse and cart and later by truck. .The dairy industry in Orbost and the surrounding area has always been a major contributor to the milk supply of Victoria.A clear glass half-pint milk or cream bottle. Moulded in two halves, made to take either a cork or cardboard disc pressed into top with wire grip. The bottle was meant to be recycled and the glass is therefore quite thick. This calendar was produced to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Warrnambool Fire Brigade. The significance of this item lies in the fact that it is commemorating 150years of the Fire Brigade in Warrnambool and also that it also contains a selection of historic and recent photos including the original fire bell, different fire stations, engines and crews through the years. Cream coloured front and back covers with white, month to a page entries. Each month has either black and white or coloured photos. Front cover has gold coloured emblem of firemen with hose and bell. The American Truck History Association is an international organization, with over 21,000 members in the United States, Australia, Canada, and 20 other countries worldwide. A.H. McMullen & Co P/L, established by Arthur McMillan in February, 1951, had a long history as transport operators in Orbost and Gippsland districts. The company became Gippsland's largest transport company. It carted timber from the Orbost/ Cann River district district sawmills to the railway station. Two trains a day left the sloaded with timber. Beans were carted from Fisher's Bean Factory to Melbourne and Sydney. Cream from the farms was transported to the butter factory and for almost twenty years Fuel was carted from Melbourne to the RAAF base at Sale by McMullens. In 1970 the company was sold to F.J. Stephens and then to Mayne Nickless Transport. (ref.Deborah Hall "In Times Gone By') A.H. McMullen was a significant business in the mid 20th century in Orbost. Overhead Maintenance motor truck with hydraulic elevating and rotating platform on a 1952 Bedford Chassis. Engine no. KM 237540, with purpose built platform, lockers, cupboards and elevating platform, ladders, hand rails and a gong. Fitted with turn indicators and flashing lights by BTPS and vice. One of a few service vehicles built from almost new by the MMTB rather than being a converted vehicle. Donated to the BTM in 1999 and has been an operational tram 2001.Single truck (4 wheels), special purpose tram fitted with two cabs, control equipment, air brakes, track scrubber or cleaning equipment, pump, water and air lines to clean track. Carries approx. 4 cubic metres of water. The tram was built by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board in 1934 using the cabs from a C class tram (No. 32). It was transported to the isolated Footscray system a number of times to clean the rails there. In 1961 it received additional body bracing and repainted in the diagonal black and string (light cream) stripes. The tram became 8W during 1975 as the then new Z class trams came into service. By the early 1990's the need for the tram and the other similar cars used to "scrub" the surface of the rails was no longer. The tram was stored at Malvern depot for many years before being donated to the Ballarat Tramway Museum by the Public Transport Commission in September 1999. It has been scrubbing the rails in Ballarat since March 2001. For a detailed article see April 2008 issue of Fares Please.
