Newspaper Clipping from the Courier, September or October 1971 of the unloading of Ballarat No. 11 by the Daylesford Historical Society. The tram was a gift from the "Ballarat Tramways". Unloading the tram is being done by the SEC Depot jacks in the Historical Society's yard. Exact date of cutting not known. This tram was built by Meadowbank Manufacturing Company of Sydney in 1915. First used by Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust, then went to Geelong. It came to Ballarat in 1936. When the trams stopped running in Ballarat it went to Dalyesford and District Historical Society. In 1977 it was acquired by the Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society (Ballarat Tramway Museum from 1995). The photo shows Tram 11 coming up Victoria Street, going past St Alipius Church, on 11 August 1971. One of a number of this type of tram still in working order in Australian tramway museums. Has no motors. Interior one of the few given a paint finish by SEC, others are varnished. Has timber panelled sides.Single truck (4 wheels), drop ends, modified open California combination to closed car, with 4 doors, 2 at either end, longitudinal seats, sliding internal doors, air brakes. - electric motors removed. Pietro Lucini owned the building on the right in the attached photograph. He operated a general store here prior to building a new building opposite this site. He was involved in gold mining activities in the early settlement of Spring Creek, now known as Hepburn Springs. Dr Francesco operated a store in building on left. The Daylesford Fire Brigade carriage was locally built by White and Oldham, wheelwrights and carriage makers to the design of Captain Henshaw. Their premises was behind the Victoria Hotel, and American by origin.Photograph of the first ladder carriage bought by the Daylesford Volunteer Fire Brigade, built locally, and designed by Captain Henshaw. It is an important record of purchase and some significant buildings circa 1867.Black and white photograph showing the first ladder carriage of the Daylesford Fire Brigade taken from Bridport Street looking towards Wombat Hill. The carriage stands in Victoria Street (now Central Springs Road) and shows the former Daylesford Post Office on the right. The building on the left was the Bank of Victoria, later the Belvedere Hotel, and in 2012 was Kookla. Other buildings include Victoria Building, Church of England (Anglican), Stanbridge Hall.The carriage shows ten canvas water buckets hanging on hooks, a long ladder and two hoses hang from hooks on the lower section of the four wheeled carriage. Photograph shows three trams in the SEC Depot shed. Numbers on two trams are identifiable but the third is not. The tram in the centre is Number 41. This was built in 1914 by Duncan and Fraser, Adelaide. Originally in Geelong and came to Ballarat when their trams stopped running in 1956. When Ballarat trams stopped in 1971, Tram 41 went to Horsham City Council for the Wimmera River Improvement League. The tram converted and became a smokers' lounge within Olde Horsham Restaurant. Still operating today. Tram 11 is on the righthand side. It was built in 1915 by Meadowbank Manufacturing Company Sydney. It was first part of the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust fleet. It came to Ballarat in 1936 after being in Geelong. In 1971 the Ballarat trams stopped running and No.11 tram went to Daylesford and District Historical Museum. The Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society acquired the tram in 1977.
