An early attempt to catalogue Legacy memorabilia which refers to 33 boxes of items split into subject matter such as 'History of Legacy', 'Finance Committee', 'Junior Legacy', 'Shrine', Group and Branch histories, and photograph albums. No indication of when it was compiled or by whom though it is presumed to be the Archive committee that was established by Frank Doolan who collected a lot of the items in the archive cabinets. Uses a rudimentary system of cataloguing e.g. 'H1. Inauguration of Remembrance Club. Box 1', where 'H' refers to History. 'S' refers to Shrine. Includes three loose typed and handwritten sheets listing films and tapes. A high number of History documents (H1 - H63) are filed in Box 25 - 01475 onwards. Believed to be from the archive project in the early 1970s by L/ Frank Doolan and L/ Brian Armstrong. This item appears to have catalogued at 00507 as well. Bob Hymans was a pioneer of Falls Creek. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in July 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grand Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Grand Coeur was never rebuilt, but Bob modified his annexe to be used as accommodation and later also operated Southern Cross and the Four Seasons. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans died on 7th July 2007.These items are significant because they document the building of Bob Hymans' Grand Coeur Chalet and its destruction by fire in 1961.A collection of images and a newspaper article about the fire which destroyed Grand Coeur Lodge in August 1961.Label for newspaper photo Three of the refugees from the fire: From left, Mrs. C. Schuss was advertised as Victoria’s Official Ski Journal It was issued monthly from 1935 to 1961 except during the war when summer issues covered two months. This continued after the war, but it averaged 10 issues annually over its 25 year life. Schuss was published by the Ski Club of Victoria which had a membership of 38 Ski Clubs and demanded to be recognised as the prime authority on skiing in the state. The other 30 ski clubs with 85% of the members disagreed and the politics of skiing became heated. These clubs formed the Federation of Victorian Ski Clubs with their own journal, Ski Horizon. With the establishment of the Victorian Ski Association, Ski-Horizon published its last issue in Nov - Dec. 1955 and the role of the official journal was fully taken over by “Schuss”. This item is significant because it contains stories, images and information documenting the development of the ski facilities at Falls Creek. The journal features stories and events chronicling developments in Victoria and internationally. The cover is a photo by Eric Burt captioned "Hotham Ski slopes which are already calling skiers for the '58 season" Page 87 has a brief report about the destruction of the Albury Ski Club by fire on 18th April 1958. These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1991, feature St John's Anglican Church in Miles Street, Deer Park, during celebrations marking the church's centenary. Constructed in 1891, St John's was the oldest wooden church in the present-day City of Brimbank and one of the district's earliest Anglican churches. Prior to the construction of the church, Anglican services in Deer Park were held in private homes and later in a recreation hall adjoining the Cricket Club Hotel (now the Deer Park Hotel), which was owned by local identity Alex Dickson. Built largely through the efforts of local volunteers, the Miles Street church served as Deer Park's principal place of Christian worship for many decades and maintained strong connections with many of the district's earliest settler families. The building remained a prominent local landmark until it was destroyed by fire in 2016 and subsequently demolished. The Miles Street church, built by volunteers served as Deer Park’s only church for many decades and was closely tied to the area’s earliest settler families. The building was destroyed by fire in 2016 and later demolished. These photographs are sigificant because they document a building that no longer exists. Following its destruction by fire in 2016 and subsequent demolition, these images remain an important visual record of a landmark that formed part of Deer Park's heritage for 125 years.6844.01 - St. Johns Church Miles Street Deer Park 100th Anniversary 1991 Photographs (Advocate 504.1).JPG 6844.02 - St. Johns Church Miles Street Deer Park 100th Anniversary 1991 Photographs (Advocate 504.1).JPG 6844.03 - St. Johns Church Miles Street Deer Park 100th Anniversary 1991 Photographs (Advocate 504.1).JPG 6844.04 - St. Johns Church Miles Street Deer Park 100th Anniversary 1991 Photographs (Advocate 504.1).JPG 6844.05 - St. Johns Church Miles Street Deer Park 100th Anniversary 1991 Photographs (Advocate 504.1).JPG 6844.06 - St. Johns Church Miles Street Deer Park 100th Anniversary 1991 Photographs (Advocate 504.1).JPGst. johns church, miles street, deer park
