Matching coloured envelope (0824.b) has an alternating red and blue diamond-patterned boarder. Letter begins "Hi Allen" and concludes "...your old friend Douglas". The envelope has been re-addressed twice; originally to New York then San Pedre, California and finally to San Francisco. There is one post-mark on the front and two on the back. This item has been identified by David Nixon as the workbook of George Henry Douglas Russell (Doug) of Bete Bolong. He was the second son of John and Elizabeth Russell. John Russell wasblacksmith in Orbost. His family were Jack, Doug, Dave and Billy. Doug was in WW! where he was a Veterinary Sergeant. After the war he came bach to Orbost and his father gave him the farm at Bete Bolong to work. This farm is on the corner of Birkins Lane and Buchan Road (presently owned By Ginger and Helen Johnstone). He started farming tgere in 1920 and married Hilda Raymond in 1922. The slatted barn and house still exist. David Nixon, the donor, married a daughter of Doug and Hilda Russell and worked the farm from 1947-1973. He found the diary at the farm. This item is a valuable record of agricultural practices in the Orbost district during the 1920's.An exercise book with a worn black cover and a faded red spine. The author Robert D Ewins (1933-2013) taught at the school for eight years (1958-1965). He drew upon the school's archival collection and was able to source a copy of every edition of the school magazine (Prospice). Located on Prospect Hill Road in Canterbury, Camberwell High School opened in 1941 with an enrolment of 350 girls and boys and in 2020 has an enrolment of 1200 students. Its motto is 'Disco Consulere Aliis' (Learning to be considerate of others). Uniform is green and red. The school has featured in a number of films and television productions including 'Knowing', a 2009 movie; former principal Elida Brereton appeared in the Australian television comedy series 'Summer Heights High' playing the principal Mrs Murray; the Australian television series 'The Worst Year Of My Life - Again!' was filmed there in 2013; as was the Australian film 'Emo the Musical' in early 2016. Some of snippets of the Australian TV series 'The Sullivans' were filmed in the grounds. Some of the school's notable ex-students are Robert Manne, lecturer of politics; Dannii Minogue, singer, actress and TV personality; Kylie Minogue, pop singer, and actress and Brian Naylor, former Channel 9 newsreader.A soft cover book of 160 pages with black and white photos, newspaper clippings and other illustrations. Cochrane was commissioned into the Life Guards in 1870 and promoted to lieutenant the following year and captain in 1878. He served in the Nile Expedition, the Desert March and the Relief of Khartoum. Appointed Commanding Officer of 2nd Life Guards in 1895. Served in the Second Boer War and appointed Commander of the Mounted Brigade,part of the South Natal Field Force. Participated in the Relief of Ladysmith in 1900. Appointed General Officer Commanding Militia of Canada and was there for two years. Appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath. Appointed Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 1901 and in 1907 knighted as a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.
