He served at the YMCA, Fisherwick Belfast, United Kingdom, Professor of New Testament Studies at the Theological Hall, Master of Ormond College and retired in 1979. The group is standing on a granite outcrop listening to a man who is using a large boulder as a podium.Nature study was a new subject introduced into the school curriculum throughout the English-speaking world in the 1890s and 1900s that taught students about the natural environment. It was hoped that a concern about the natural environment would be fostered into the school children, who were seen as future citizens of the world, and that they would implement changes to preserve the natural environment when they reached adulthood. Frank Wright was a renown resident of Smeaton, where he was born. He lived at Laura Villa, and attended Smeaton State School. His father William was a gold miner and his mother's name was Sarah. Their family won many singing and instrumental awards. Frank was tutored by Percy Code and was awarded a gold medal for the highest marks in the ALCM examinations in the British Colonies at the age of seventeen years. He became the Australian Open Cornet Champion by the age of eighteen. A year later, Frank conducted the City of Ballarat Band, and later the Ballarat Soldiers’ Memorial Band. He formed the Frank Wright Frisco Band and Frank Wright and his Coliseum Orchestra. These bands won many South Street awards, and Frank as conductor won many awards in the Australian Band Championship contest. In 1933 Frank Wright sailed to England to conduct the famous St Hilda’s Band and was later appointed Musical Director of the London County Council, where he organized many amazing concerts in parks, in and around the London district. He was made Professor of Brass and Military Band Scoring and conducted at the Guildhall of Music and Drama. Frank was often invited to adjudicate Brass Band Championships around Europe, in Australia, including South Street and in New Zealand. The Frank Wright Medal at the Royal South Street competition is awarded to an individual recognized as making an outstanding contribution to brass music in AustraliaBlack and white photograph of a large tree-bordered park. On the 2nd of December 1978, the official opening of the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria's new headquarters, Action House, was held in conjunction with the inaugural Christmas fete. Action House was located on the grounds of the Royal Talbot Hospital in Kew. In this photo, Cr John H Gervasoni (1929-1992), Mayor of Kew, addresses the crowd the veranda of Action House. Seated behind him are Dr Leslie Koadlow AO (1920-2006) and Mrs Kathleen Gervasoni, Mayoress of Kew, among others (partially obscured). An article pertaining to the event (along with several other photos) appears on page 1 (the cover page) and page 3 of the Vol. 11, December 1978 issue of the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria's quarterly newsletter, News Review. In the article, it is reported that the Mayor, Cr. Gervasoni, unveiled the plaque and officially opened Action House, while the Mayoress, Mrs. Gervasoni, officially opened the fete and Christmas Family Fun Day. According to the paper label "Expatriate Clive James was named the 1993 Legacy Personality of the Year at a special function conducted by Melbourne Legacy. Clive entertained over 500 guests with a personal address of his time as a young Legacy boy. Clive will be seen later in the year as part of Legacy's Annual Badge Appeal." It was a "Breakfast with Clive James" at the Regent Hotel in February 1993, and Australian author Patsy Adam-Smith and Sir Edward 'Weary' Dunlop were also guests. This photo forms part of a collection of photographs gathered by the Shire of Eltham for their centenary project book, "Pioneers and Painters: 100 years of the Shire of Eltham" by Alan Marshall (1971).
