First demonstation was against the City of Melbourne Act which excised 42% of Port Melbourne's rate base (Fishermens Bend) and so laid the groundwork for amalgamation afterwards because Port Melbourne could not survive on the remaining rates. Edith and Ralston Paterson were prominent figures in radiology and cancer treatment who consulted with the Australian government and in 1943 wrote a report recommending Australia developed a single institute to treat cancer.

This work forms part of the collection assembled by the historian Dorothy Rogers, that was donated to the Kew Historical Society by her son John Rogers in 2015. The manuscripts, photographs, maps, and documents were sourced by her from both family and local collections or produced as references for her print publications. Many were directly used by Rogers in writing ‘Lovely Old Homes of Kew’ (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or the numerous articles on local history that she produced for suburban newspapers. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand. Frank Richardson sent this postcard to his family from Cairo before leaving for the front.The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s. Trinket boxes were used to store small treasures, jewellery or keep-sakes. In the Edwardian era (1901-1910) Art Nouveau influence saw designs become more intricate featuring graceful curves and motifs inspired by nature with lighter more delicate designs. The brass lid is ornate embossed with a floral and scroll design.The lid is similar to those made by Zeccoli D'Azeghio of Bologna, Italy but no maker's mark is visible. Zeccoli is probably a shop name located on d'AZeghio Street in Bologna in early 20th Century. It no longer exists.This is a typical Art Nouveau influenced design of the Edwardian era. The embossed lid is intricacy designed. Norway, around 1840, was the first country to produce and use glass fishing floats. Many of them can still be found in local boathouses. Christopher Faye, a Norwegian merchant from Bergen, is credited with their invention. The earliest floats, including most Japanese glass fishing floats, were handmade by a glassblower. Recycled glass, especially old sake bottles in Japan, was typically used and air bubbles/imperfections in the glass are a result of the rapid recycling process. Glass floats have since been replaced by aluminum, plastic, or Styrofoam. Today most of the glass floats remaining in the ocean are stuck in a circular pattern of ocean currents in the North Pacific.By the 1940s, glass had replaced wood or cork throughout much of Europe, Russia, North America, and Japan. Handwritten copy of a newspaper report on an explosion at the New Chum Consolidated Mine. The explosion occurred about 7.30 am on Friday 21/1/1881 when a fire broke out in the engine house. Some dynamite and caps had been placed in the engine house for convenience sake. Seven men were injured. They were T. His major research interests have been in Aboriginal and natural history of the Melbourne area. He researched The Place for a Village as a PdD, in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at The University of Melbourne. Gary Presland is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria, an Honorary Fellow at The University of Melbourne and an Honorary Associate of Museum Victoria, where he was the 2001 Thomas Ramsay Science and Humanities Fellow. Louise Paramor says, “I just love colour and playing around with it, it makes me feel good. I get a kick out of harmonising colour in conjunction with form. I think if there was more finely tuned colour in the world it would be a better place. There exists a lot of untamed colour in the everyday and to me this is often creates a feeling that is the opposite of uplifting.” In this work, Paramor creates a utopian building from collaged pieces of paper, which have been painted in planes of coloured enamel. Often these collages become sculptures, for which Paramor is mainly known. Andy Gomez writes of Boomtown, “Louise Paramor invites us into her own fabricated domain, where colours are coherent and vivid, buildings are unique and non-conformist, where public sculpture exists for the sake of form, colour, line, and levity. There is an inherent optimism at work here, exalting the accomplishments and ingenuity of the urban sprawl and the enforced participation of a shared culture and experience that offers.”
