In December 1954 the Parents Association was formed and met at the Sunshine State School. In February 1955 classes commenced with First and Second Form students accommodated in several local Halls. In May 1955 the students transferred to the new building. Over the years many children with overseas background attended the school. The school ceased to exist in its own right in 1991, and amalgamated with five other local secondary schools to form the multi campus Sunshine College in 1992. The former Sunshine High School buildings on Ballarat Road are now part of the Sunshine Campus of Victoria University. The book contains photographs and written articles from the school years as well as photographs of those attending the 1991 reunion. The history of the school is covered in this book under the headings: (1) Beginnings, (2) The Sixties, (3) The Seventies, (4) The Final Years, and (5) Vale. The major historical feature of this book is however the 17 pages of Staff and Student names, and the years they were at the school. This book is of historic and research significance. As well as providing some of the history of the school, the book has a comprehensive list of the staff and students that were at the school. Researchers will be able to determine the numbers of students commencing each year, the ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, and especially in the early years determine the spelling of the Surnames and Christian names of many students with overseas backgrounds. In the 1950's some Primary School teachers had the habit of changing students European Christian names to the English versions, and so the new names may have carried on to High School enrolment. For example some students named Ryszard were enrolled as Richard. Many students however were enrolled with correct ethnic spelling of their names. Although the list of students names appears to be comprehensive until about 1985, it appears to fail after that. It is known that some students names are missing in the final years.Front cover has a maroon coloured background with a pair of diagrammatic light blue hands reaching towards an orange and yellow source of light. The words SEEK LIGHT and SUNSHINE HIGH SCHOOL 1955-1991 are also on the front cover. The rear cover is plain white coloured. The book contains 68 pages plus the covers.Inside the front cover is an acknowledgement by John Scott to the work of the 1991 Reunion Committee for the production of the book, with eight people and their roles specifically named. The secondary title of the book as written inside on page 1 appears to be "Sunshine High Reflections 1954 - 91"sunshine high school

These pennants were introduced by Sunshine High School around 1959 in an attempt to instil among the students, a greater pride for the school. This particular pennant was hung for many years on the bedroom wall of the original student who bought it. It was later in the possession of a younger sibling who commenced going to Sunshine High School 19 years after the original student.Sunshine High School existed in its own right for a relatively short time from 1955 to 1991. The school buildings now form part of the Sunshine Campus of Victoria University. This pennant is one of the few items in our possession which serve as a reminder that Sunshine High School was once part of the secondary education system in the Western suburbs of Melbourne.Triangular shaped pennant made mainly from maroon coloured felt material, with yellow felt material used to make an edging stripe and two suspension loops along the short side of the triangle. Blue and yellow coloured inks are used to print the Sunshine High School 'SEEK LIGHT' logo and 'Sunshine hs' in antique style lettering."Sunshine hs"sunshine high school, pennant, seek light, felt, maroon.

Sunshine High School was one of the most important post‑war secondary schools in Melbourne’s west, operating from 1955 until its closure in 1991, when it became part of the large-scale amalgamation that created Sunshine College. For the school's reunion of 1991, the Reunion Committee produced a publication "Seek Light: Sunshine High School 1955–1991" which was a detailed record of the school's life—including teachers, principals, student leaders, and memories. This small, slim case was manufactured to contain reading spectacles in a secure but yet "manageable pocket or purse" environment. It was manufactured to contain reading glasses that would not exceed 12mm in thickness. The product was targeting the "professional" reader ie. accountant, lawyer, business and property managers. Because it was made for a "eyesight" specialist to contain "prescription" reading spectacles the quality had to be of a higher level than cheaper "off the shelf" ones. This case was made and used in the late 1800's and early 1900's.This case, for spectacles, holds a significant position in that it points to a time in history when rural Australian families required to travel long distances to obtain professional "eyesight" treatment which, on the whole, were only available in the capital cities (in this case Melbourne). In the pre 1960's, the greater the distance from capital cities for Australian rural folk to seek professional medical, dental, nose ,eye and throat specialists the greater the time involved resulting in the greater expense. This "isolation" brought about increased costs not experienced by city residences. The quality and durability of this case was a pre-requisite for the Kiewa Valley based resident. This slim spring lid spectacle case has a body of light steel over layered by a fine skin dyed(dark brown) leather coating. The inside, of the case, has a 1mm lip opposite the hinged end (to secure the reading spectacles within the case). The inside is fully covered by a "royal" purple felt (to provide the spectacles with a scratch free enclosure). At the outside base in gold lettering "H.B. BISSELL" underneath "EYESIGHT" underneath "SPECIALIST" underneath "BARKLY st", underneath "FOOTSCRAY"personal effects, spectacles, eye fashion, reading glasses

The (logging) truck carries a representation of John Glover’s painted landscapes, which Cox has painted on a solid block of wood. John Glover is one of Australia’s most celebrated colonial landscape painters. Born in England, he was a highly successful water-colourist and painter of landscapes in the tradition of French artist Claude Lorrain. Arriving in Australia in 1831, Glover adapted his picturesque style and luminous technique to his new surrounds, creating naturalistic and atmospheric paintings of Australian nature, settler life, and Aboriginal culture. Working out of doors, Glover developed an understanding of the unfamiliar Australian landscape, especially the twisting forms of native eucalyptus trees. His direct experience of nature, as both pioneer settler and painter, resulted in a new approach using a subtle palette of olive greens, ochres, misty greys and intense blues, and layered glazes of mauve, grey and gold, to portray Australian light and atmosphere. Dale Cox continues the ongoing preoccupation and tradition of landscape painting in the Nillumbik area and our impact on the environment in a contemporary way. The truck creates a playful nexus between painting (representational landscape) and sculpture, purposely bluring boundaries across these traditionally distinct disciplines. ‘Ghost’ seeks to convey the idea that when we remove something significant from a location, like the landscape itself, the remaining ‘place’ changes to become a new ‘place’. This may seem self-evident until we think more deeply about location and landscape. The white truck is a ghost, an ethereal, transient being that spirits away an entire place, forever removed from itself, and forever changed. Logging wild trees can never be like harvesting a ‘crop’. Logging removes a landscape, and changes a place forever. The ‘packaging’ of this painted landscape highlights the anomaly between commodity and our environment. Dale Cox was a local artist and this work was highly commended at the 2012 Nillumbik Prize. White plastic toy (logging) truck with a landscape painting on a wooden block. The landscape painting is reminiscent of paintings by colonial artist John Glover. N/Alandscape, truck, sculpture, environment, john glover, colonial, painting, ghost, nillumbik prize

The Art Collection features over 2000 works and was listed as a 'Ballarat Treasure' in 2007.Two vessels made as a sculptural pair. Statement: "My work involves an exploration of elemental vessels - extending porcelain to develop taut contours and spatial dynamics. I seek to distill an essence of purity to evoke notions of quietude and transendence through the expressive use of glaze and its relationship to form, tactility, weight and light. Forms are wheel-thrown, altered and slowly scraped to develip a soft line and solidity. Coloured matt glazes are layered and fused to the porcelain body through multiple firings to give expression and luminosity to the surface,. The iodosyncratice nature of glaze stimulates the imagination. It evokes associations with the natural environement and alludes to a meditative infinity."Signed on base 'f.'art, artwork, neville french, french, ceramics, porcelain, wheelthrown, thrown and altered, alumni

Waverley Novels Tales of my Landlord Set-2 Vol 10, Light brown hardcover lettering in black text. Author: Sir Walter Scott Publisher: Fisher Son & Co Date: 1836fictionThe subject volume “Waverley Novels Vol 10” published by Fisher Son & Co (1838) is part of a collected edition of Sir Walter Scott's works, containing stories from the "Tales of My Landlord" series. "Tales of My Landlord" forms a key subset of Scott's Waverley Novels, presented as fictional tales gathered by characters like Peter Pattieson from the landlord of the Wallace “Inn at Gandercleugh”. The series spans multiple books across four sub-series, including “The Black Dwarf” (1707 setting), “Old Mortality” (1679–1689), “The Heart of Midlothian” (1736), “The Bride of Lammermoor” (1709–1711), “A Legend of Montrose” (1644–1645), “Count Robert of Paris” (1097), and “Castle Dangerous” (1307). Vol 46 in the 1838 Fisher edition reprints later entries like “Count Robert of Paris” or “Castle Dangerous” from the fourth series, as these stories originally appeared in Scott's Magnum Opus collected volume editions, the first from 1816. With the influential 48-volume “Magnum Opus” edition from 1829–1833 by Robert Cadell, serving as the basis for later collected published sets like Fisher's. In the “Second Series” is the one that includes The Heart of MidLothian, a major Scott novel set around the 1736 Porteous riots in Edinburgh. The story was presented as a collection of stories gathered from a fictional landlord, edited by the imagined figures Peter Pattieson and Jedediah Cleishbotham. In the second series, the central novel, “The Heart of MidLothian, follows crime, justice, and moral conflict in 18th-century Scotland, especially the case of Effie Deans the fictional character in the novel. She is Jeanie Dean’s younger sister presented as pretty, impulsive, and more socially vulnerable than her sister Jeanie. In the novel, she is accused of killing her illegitimate child, though the truth is more complicated, and Jeanie travels to London to seek a pardon for her. Therefore her story centres on an out-of-wedlock pregnancy, a charge of child murder, and the efforts made to save her life, as well as the social consequences of her trial. warrnambool, shipwrecked-coast, flagstaff-hill, flagstaff-hill-maritime-museum, maritime-museum, shipwreck-coast, flagstaff-hill-maritime-village, shipwrecked-artefact, book, waverley novels vol 46 tales of my landlord, sir walter scott, pattison collection, warrnambool library, warrnambool mechanics’ institute, ralph eric pattison, corangamite regional library service, warrnambool city librarian, mechanics’ institute library, victorian library board, warrnambool books and records, warrnambool children’s library, waverley novels
