The Merle Bush Trefoil Guild was registered in Bendigo on 18/06/1981.The decision to disband the Merle Bush Trefoil Guild was made at a General Meeting on 17/02/2016. The group agreed to continue as the Merle Bush Friendship Group. The Australian Trefoil Guilds connect women who are either actively involved in Girl Guiding or have a history with Girl Guiding. 2903 SUNNY CREEK formerly YARRAGON EAST. Sunny Creek State School, first called Yarragon East, was situated on Sunny Creek Road between Yarragon and Trafalgar and was opened in 1888. It was generally served by two teachers or a Head Teacher assisted by a Sewing Mistress. Edwin Mann taught there for 35 years, with his wife, Mrs Mann, as the Sewing Mistress for some years. [Extracted from Vision and Realisation: A Centenary History of State Education in Victoria, Vol. 3, 1973. This does not contain any details of the actual construction of the school, which is a typical Education Department building, and may date from later than 1888]High local historic significance, with some social significance: reunions of old students still held. It is a rectangular-shaped timber building with weatherboard walls, timber frame and corrugated iron roof. An outside verandah is situated along the side of the building. These 2 cupboards are in what was the “Writing Room” of the Soldiers Memorial Institute Pall Mall Bendigo where the Bendigo RSL held occupancy from the day the building was opened in 1921. The room is now known as the “Building and RSL History Room”, of the Bendigo Military Museum. The four Units on the 2 cupboards had large Associations in Bendigo. The 57th Bn basically had one Whole Company of Soldiers from the Bendigo region during WW1. The POW’s which were mostly from WW2 and held many great reunions in the Main Hall. The 38th Bn was raised in Bendigo in 1916 for the 1st World War, after the war it became a CMF unit up into the 1960’s. The 6th Bn was one of the first Victorian Bn’s to be raised for WW1. Third photo. A third cabinet was built on top of the L/hand side one at a later date. The photo gives a layout of the the 2 cabinets and fireplace..1).2) Both cabinets are built into the recess beside the fireplace, both are timber with 4 doors on each. A few Alfred nurses who trained in the 1880's and 1890's presented this bell, on August 3, 1931, to the Alfred Hospital Nurses League. List of names Emma F. Rice (Graduated 1888) E.M. Farie-Wright (1888), J.May (1891), Rosa J.M.Snodgrass (1897), Florence B.Lloyd-Wilson (1891) Agnes Dale-Smith (1891) Annie Russell (1889) Annie E.H.Thomson (1892)The Nurses League was founded in 1918 for 'nurses to socialize and exchange ideas'. The League was very active and the social events notoriously noisy. The bell was presented in 1931 with a note, 'hoping it will be useful and also to show warm appreciation of our very pleasant Reunions from a few of the Trainees of the Eighties and Nineties'. The thought was to help bring the gatherings to order long enough to make announcements. It has been used extensively for this purpose over the years and most recently, at the League's centenary lunch in 2018.A small, engraved electroplated nickel silver metal bell. Jubilee Reunion 12/12/1936 School No. 2778 established 1886 at first using a Recreation Hall in Albany Crescent near the corner of Windsor Crescent, Surrey Hills. Surrey Hills was first subdivided into urban blocks in 1883 when the train line to Lilydale was opened. Previously the children of local farmers walked to Balwyn school or to a small school in St. Brigids Church which was on the northeast corner of the present Riversdale Road, and Warrigal Road Church.
