This book was compiled by R. Hudson who wrote in his Author's notes that he was not a historian but a steam enthusiast. The photographs come from the Victorian Railways official history or in ARHS bulletins. Many of the photograph's date from the mid to late 19th century showing steam engines, carriages, railways and stations. The Outer Circle Railway was opened in stages in 1890 and 1891, as a steam-era suburban railway line. It traversed much of the modern City of Boroondara, including the suburbs of (from north to south) Kew East, Camberwell, Burwood, Ashburton, and Malvern East. Set of Research Notes, handwritten 17 foolscap sheets from the various local newspapers of the St Kilda area newspapers and Port Melbourne area about railway development, a proposal for a horse tramway along the Esplanade and other suburban railways that were proposed in the area. Also letters to and from the City of St Kilda and City of Brighton with reference to a article in the TMSV Running Journal and a copy of a letter on the same topic from Leon Marshall Wood. Tickets were produced to enable first-class travel from Middle Brighton Railways station to Sandringham and then by Electric Tramway from Sandringham Railway Station to the corner of Bluff Road and Royal Ave. The ticket colours indicated to station staff, Inspectors, and conductors the nature of the ticket and its availability These tickets were purchased by the donor in 1970 long after the tramway had closed and travel classes were abolished on the suburban railways. They were available for use on the replacement bus service. 'Guildford' / ‘Monserrat’ originally fronted Mont Albert Road. 1888-c1900 George Jobbins, architect 1900-04 William Holmes, designer of the electrification of Melbourne suburban railways 1906-22 Philip Parer family - Phillip Parer was one of 5 Parer sons & 3 daughters who came to Australia from Spain from the 1850s onwards. The family set up a catering business. 1922-23 George Dicker family, later of Mont Albert Road After the frontage was sold, the entrance to 'Monserrat' became Wandsworth Road. A black and white photograph of a Italian Boom style house, with a double row of iron lace, and pairs of verandah columns in place of the usual single ones.
