Ron Bridger was an avid collector of items related to transport, predominately Trams. These items include newspaper cuttings, pamphlets, reports, timetables, fares prices plus special items relating to events. Items from Melbourne and regional Victoria, interstate - Adelaide and Sydney, plus overseas, make up this collection. Small souvenir card produced by The Tramway Museum Society of Victoria Limited, Melbourne. Card gives brief history of the Zoo Horse Tram that ran from Sydney Road cable tramway, through Royal Park to the Zoo gates. It opened on the 10th March 1890. Photo of Ballarat No. 18 photographed alongside MMTB AEC Regal Mk III bus, No. 543 (42 seats) (Reg. No. HJG 543). TMSV tour photo for the 60th anniversary of electric trams in Ballarat on 15th August 1965. No. 18 has a specially painted board over the front of the tram "60th Anniversary / Electric Trams / 1905 Ballarat 1965". Standing between the tram and Bus are Les Denmead, D. Irvine, J. Dowd and T. Young. Both vehicles showing "Special" and standing on Ballarat depot fan. Photo also appears in "MMTB News", Oct - Nov. 1965, Reg. Item 2719.7. Dave Macartney advised 19/11/01 that other the other official guests at the event was Mr. F. K. The MTOC only provided full uniforms to its traffic staff from around 1900. Numerous professional photographs then appeared of uniformed staff individually or in groups. In a time when the average person could afford very little elegant clothing, a stylish uniform impressed many. It raised the profile of the well dressed staff member and of the tramway company. As well as the brass buttons on the conductor's tunic and vest, MTOC insignia can be seen on his cap and collar. He also wears an employee badge with his number (4) and depot (P = Prahran) and several large pins to hold his trip slips. These long strips of coloured card were clipped using a bell punch to record the fares collected. Colour slide of VR class tram 53, route 30, westbound in La Trobe St on the bypass built to enable the construction of the Melbourne Central or Museum station between Dec 1973 and 1978 - see reference. The concrete looks relatively new in the photograph. The tram was originally built by the Victorian Railways for their St Kilda Brighton tramway in 1942. It is currently on display at the Melbourne Tram Museum. Many of the buildings in the background have since been demolished. No. 219 has adverts for Metro Hair, Dux and Nabisco biscuits, but is yet to be fitted with marker lights - (fitted Feb. 1974). SW6 866 has been fitted with marker lights (Dec. 1970).
