Historical information

This photograph forms part of a collection of photographs gathered by the Whittlesea Historical Society for their project book, "Historic Views of the City of Whittlesea" by Robert Wuchatsch and Gwen Hawke, as part of Australia's Bicentennial Celebrations in 1988. The collection contains over 200 historic photographs covering all aspects of early life in the area now embraced by the City of Whittlesea.

Significance

It was officially opened by Cr. F.R. Godfrey Esq. J.P., MLA on 24 May 1876, Queen Victoria’s birthday, and named the Victoria Bridge in her honour.
