Accessory - Victoria Police Button, c. 1950s

Historical information

This button was found adjacent to the old lock-up in the backyard of present-day Fernlea Op-Shop, formerly the site of the Emerald Police Station. It was made by button manufacturer K. G. Luke, who was one of Australia's largest manufacturers of silverware, including buttons. This button was likely made sometime in between the death of King George VI in February 1952 and the changing of the company's name in May 1953, due to the presence of the Queen's crown on the front and the manufacturing details on the back.

Significance

This button is significant as it demonstrates the presence of the Victorian Police Force in Emerald in the mid-20th Century
