Postcard - Postcard of Trans Australia Airlines airplane (TAA) CV240 Convair

Historical information

TAA's first CV-240 airplane arrived in Melbourne in September 1948 and shortly thereafter flew on a demonstration flight from Melbourne to Sydney carrying 40 passengers in 1hr and 45min. This airplane proved very successful and helped TAA to become profitable. TAA operated from its inception in 1946 as a Federal Government owned airline until its merger with Qantas in 1992.This postcard is one of five TAA airline postcards which are in turn part of an album of postcards which date from late 19th century to mid 20th century.

Significance

This airline postcard is a reflection on the novelty and popular interest related to passenger airlines in the 1940s and 1950s.
