Historical information
The DC-4 was designed by the Douglas Aircraft Company in the USA in the early 1940s and was used exclusively by the USA military during the war. Post-war, it became popular with commercial airlines including TAA. TAA operated from its inception in 1946 as a Federal Government owned airline until its merger with Qantas in 1992.This postcard is one of five TAA airline postcards which are in turn part of an album of postcards which date from late 19th century to mid 20th century.
Significance
This airline postcard is a reflection on the novelty and popular interest related to passenger airlines in the 1940s and 1950s.
