Typed below photograph, "Commemoration Tree at North Ringwood State School. ... Planted in sand from Gallipoli." Image shows newly planted eucalyptus tree in protective wooden framework with notice reading: "Commemoration Tree. This tree was planted on Remembrance Day, 11th November, 1955 by Maj. Gen. Beavis, CB, CBE, DSO. In memory of all Servicmen who took part in the wars of 1914-18 and 1939-45. Lest We Forget." See also VC No 1593 for later images of this tree with a permanent plaque dated 1965.

Commemoration Tree and plaque in the grounds of North Ringwood Primary School in Oban Road. These coloured photographs are undated, however the playground equipment suggests circa 1990s. The plaque mounted at the base of the tree in 1965 reflects the wording of a sign attached to the tree when it was planted ten years earlier, in 1955. (See also Reg. no. 139 - "Commemoration Tree"). Writing on plaque reads: "Commemoration Tree. This tree was planted on Remembrance Day 11th November 1955 by Maj. Gen. L.E. Beavis, C.B, CBE, DSO in memory of all servicemen who took part in the wars of 1914-18 and 1939-45. Lest We Forget. Presented by Ringwood Sub-branch R.S.S.A.I.L.A. 11th November 1965."

Newspaper Clippings relating to North Ringwood State School, plus handwritten historical notes about establishment of the scool, and expansion to 5 acres in 1957.

Handwritten notes include: “2 acres of land for this school given as a gift by Mrs W.S. Williams. Tenders were called for the work of building of the school and the successful tenderer was Mr E. S. Murray, Builder of Ringwood. The contract price accepted being £679.10.0. The school was opened on the 24th October 1923 and the first head teacher was Mr Rowland J. Mason. Increased to 5 acres 1958.” And notes by Ellie Pullen: “Tree planted in the school grounds 1955 – lemon scented gum. " "RP (Ron Pullin) made a memorable return to Gallipoli in 1936 while serving with the navy in HMAS “Australia”. His ship together with the HMAS “Sydney” took the first Australian servicemen to Gallipoli to commemorate the 21st Anniversary of the landing”

Brochure reads: Cover: North Ringwood Primary School / 50th Anniversary / 1923 1973 Interior: This etching shows the original school as it was when built in 1923 with fifteen pupils attending. With increased enrolments an extra 12 feet was added to the single class room in 1929 and more windows added. Further rooms were added to the original building in 1955 and in 1968. With the development of the district it was felt that a complete new school would be necessary to cope with the large number of enrolments in the future.......
