Historical information

The Madigan family were long term residents and business owners in Emerald. Jim Madigan was the local Butcher once he returned from World War 1. Rita's father owned the Emerald bakery since 1917. These spectacles belonged to Rita Madigan (nee McLean) in the 1940s and were donated to the Emerald Museum by Vera Madigan, one of Jim and Rita's daughters. Jim and Rita had two daughters, one being Vera, and the other Shirley.

Physical description

Black celluloid circular spectacles with gold-coated/plated hook arms. The small accompanying case is constructed with a hard plastic with a thin textured coating. The inside has a protective royal blue velvet coating.
Inside the case there is a label identifying the Opticians as 'Dobbie Bros', located at 22 Bourke Street, Melbourne.
