The great praise which Mr Verbrugghen bestowed on the tone quality of the vocalists and of their exceptionally clear enunciation and fine English was indeed very pleasing to all concerned, and was ample and full justification of Mr Frazier's methods and patient care in training the Choir in these particular points. Nor must Mr H W Gregory, the Acting Conductor's part be forgotten. He worked assiduously and earnestly, doing all possible to keep up the high standard of the Society's work. The programme presented to-night is also the result of his interpretation of the descriptive works of these modern composers, In bidding farewell to him at this Concert the Committee and members desire to express their thanks for the energy with which he has carried out the duties of Acting Conductor. We expect, at a very early date to the return of Mr W C Frazier to Bendigo. He is bringing, with him a choice of selection of the very latest and best of English and other part songs (both of the earlier composers and of the ultra-modern school) and patrons can look forward to a fine series of programmes. In Retrospect In mid 1952, a distinguished man arrived in Bendigo and interested several citizens, including Dr. P Goodman, the President of the Musical Advancement Society, in the formation of a Company for the production of Musical Comedy. The meeting was called at the home of Mr Fred Bush, and a group of enthusiasts made the acquaintance of Mr Norman Lee, our producer and sequently the M.A.S. and several leading citizens, sponsored the first production, by subscribing funds for initial expenses. From such humble beginning, our present Society originated. Mr Cyril Cyril Warne was appointed Musical Director, Mrs Phyllis House, Pianist, and Miss Madge Welch, Ballet Mistress. During the Season of ''Chu Chin Chow,'' the Society will stage its 100th performance - indeed an outstanding feat in such a brief history. Looking back it is interesting to recall the 23 shows which are included, and the productions are- (listing of productions included in program). Next Productions. . . City of Warrnambool Rowing Club
Plaque, 07 08 2016
The City of Warrnambool Rowing Club (CoWRC) received a grant from the Warrnambool City Council Community Development Fund for the project: to hold a public event to install a plaque – dedicated to members and ex members who enlisted in WW1. The original honor roll had been lost to history. The date chosen was August 7 as this was 100 years since the death of a particular member, Major Thomas (Tom) Redford. Process: the Club wrote a book about its 140 year history and learnt of the honor roll. Every effort to find it was exhausted. The Club applied for funds to produce a replacement plaque and have a public event to unveil it. Outcome: There is now a permanent plaque in the rowing ‘prescient’ on the Hopkins River. one meter high stone with brass plaque‘Lest we Forget’ Honour Roll of Warrnambool Rowing Club Members and ex-Members who enlisted for the First World War.
