Made by Inge Cammans in 1998 initially to see if she could create an outfit made entirely of wool. The outfit was then entered in the National Wool Awards competition in 1999 and won first prize.Hand knitted cream and brown outfit consisting of a skirt (kilt), jumper, hat (beret), scarf, socks and bag. Outfit is made using hand spun wool from local East Gippsland area, Perendale and Mohair. This portrait is of James Cameron who was the first president of the Croajingolong Shire ( later Orbost Shire). He was also an inaugural member for East Gippsland in the Legislative Assembly from 1902 until 1920. In 1882 Cameron was the first Orbost councillor of the newly constituted Tambo Shire. In the next twenty years he served as justice of the peace, shire councillor, guardian of St James's Anglican Church, Sunday school superintendent, and president of the local agricultural society and railway league Orbost was at first included in the Bairnsdale Shire from 1882 and was later part of the Tambo Shire. The Country Education Partnership (CEP) has been working in the area of rural and remote education for over three decades. It was initially established in Victoria during 1977 and in 2012 it changed its name from Country Education Project. The original licence for the Sans Souci Hotel was granted to A. G. Ventry in 1909. The hotel burned down on 15.06.1923 and was rebuilt. It burned down again in 1936 and the licence surrendered 21.12.1936. with the owner compensated with 475 pounds and the occupier 50 pounds. (info Victoria Government Gazette Thursday December 24 1936) The hotel was at Upper Bemm River near Club Terrace in East Gippsland.This item is a contemporary pictorial record of a building which was once a popular destination for adventurous tourists in the early 1900's. Drainage infrastructure was developed and maintained in this region by the Snowy River Improvement Trust. The Trust was administered by a local committee and its activities funded by a local rate charged on the farmers and land owners in the Trust’s designated district. The level of the rate charged by the Trust was designed to be proportionate to the benefit derived from the works undertaken. Financial assistance was provided by the State Government from time to time for specific projects such as post flood repairs but not for new capital works. The Trust undertook new drainage and river management works including tree planting, rock beach construction and servicing of the drains and flood gates. The Trust also provided a personal flood warning service to the farmers in its district. The Trust ceased to operate in 1997 with the advent of the East Gippsland Catchment Management Authority. The infrastructure developed by the Trust continues to provide a service to the farmers in the region.
