The Oakey Army Aviation Centre is a training facility formed in October 1943 at Oakey, Queensland. It was built with the purpose of providing a maintenance facility: the units would erect, repair and insect aircrafts and engines. At the end of the war in 1945, the depot was used to store surplus aircraft. In early 1946, the RAAF Station Oakey was disbanded and categorised ‘to be retained but not maintained’. Since then, the RAAF Station Oakey facilities have been used few times for some minor activities. Although there are no information relating to the owner or usage of the cup; it holds historic significance for its direct link with the Australian Army Aviation Centre in Oakey and its involvement in World War II; and more generally for its link to the Australian Army.Large white cup with a handle; decorated with a blue ink symbol (displaying a crown and below it, a bird handling two swords) and blue ink inscriptions (from the Army Aviation Centre Oakey). This captured enemy flag bears the signatures of 9RAR, 1969. It was collected by Private Lionel Leslie Corrie, Service no:1201398, who served in Vietnam 1968-1969. It is the flag of The People’s Army of Vietnam, the communist North Vietnamese Army (NVA) which infiltrated and then invaded South Vietnam between 1955 and 1975. It is believed that the members of 9RAR signed this at a reunion after the war had finished.Faded red and blue material flag with a yellow five pointed star in the center. Believed to be a simple alpahbetical register of births kept by Marianne Thomson, Ringwood Postmistress and local registrar. Foolscap sized notebook with handwritten index to Births A-Z by surname. Each entry is simply the surname, christian names and Ringwood District Birth Registration Number. Believed to have been entered by Marianne Thomson, Postmistress and local Registrar. The actual Register images and searchable pdf of the registers are found in VC records 50001, 50002 and 50003 This handwritten notebook is kept only because it appears to hae been written by Marianne Thomson. The former Shire of Ballan commissioned this work which ties in with the formation and early years of the Ballan Shire Historical Society. It is a collection of articles, works and memoirs written and compiled by James Henry Walsh, an early resident of Ballan, that have been edited for publication by James Turner. Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries.
