Some appeared in the newsletter in March 1992. The article mentions that the annual camps run for two weeks at Somers Camp (believed to be Somers School Camp). It is a wonderful gathering of Junior Legatees, Legatees, and dedicated helpers. 50 Legatees attended this camp with the personal attention almost one-to-one. With ages ranging from 22 to into the 60s, Legacy has to ensure it caters for the differing needs. Legatees headed by Camp Chief, Jim Hammon and Chairman of the Handicapped Dependents Committee, Merv Tickell, were supported by two Camp Co-Ordinators and 50 helpers known as 'leaders'. Many of the leaders are people in the workforce wishing to give something back to the community. Junior Legatees are organised into groups. They participate in horse-riding, swimming, golfing, strawberry picking, and many other activities. Every month Legacy's handicapped dependents are invited to go on outings or take part in recreational and educational activities. Book, Blamey House 1939-1947 1949, 194
Blamey House was one of the residences used by Legacy as a home for Junior Legatees. The first few pages of this book explains the history and significance of the name Blamey House. Then it is like an honour roll and has pages to be inscribed with the name of each Junior Legatee that lives in the home plus their fathers name and service. There is a list of approximately 72 children in the book that lived in a Legacy home called Blamey House at some stage. The name Blamey House was transferred to three different homes run by Legacy until 1980. Blamey House was originally the name of a hostel set up in World War 2 for servicemen that needed short term accommodation and food. It was originally situated in Melbourne CBD on the corner of King and Collins Streets in the Robbs Building (since demolished). When the hostel was no longer required after the war, the trustees of Blamey House donated money - almost 20,000 pounds, to Legacy for a children and toddlers' home which was established in Balcombe Road Beaumaris. The condition of donation was that the name Blamey House be used and when the Balcombe Road property was sold in 1956 the name was transferred to Holmbush, another Legacy residence. When it was sold in 1977 the name transferred to Harelands until Legacy sold it in 1980.An ornate record of the home provided by Legacy to children in need and how the money to establish the home was acquired.Dark brown leather book with details of Blamey House.Gold embossed title on cover and spineresidences, blamey house, blamey, hostel, honour roll -

Photograph - Ceiling fresco, Drawingroom, ‘Southesk’, Cotham Road, Stewart West, 1970
Colour enlargement of a photograph (slide) of Southesk (formerly Ordsall) in Cotham Road, Kew (demolished 1970).The ceilings of and architraves of Ordsall were painted by artists employed by the decorating company, Cullis Hill & Co. The frescos, of which fragments survive, were some of the most important murals used as elements of interior decoration in Melbourne during the Boom Period of the 1880s. These photographs were taken immediately prior to the demolition of the house, and are the best examples of the murals. The most significant decorative aspects of Southesk (formerly ‘Ordsall’) were the murals in the front two rooms. An article in the Melbourne Argus in 1882 records that Mr Vandenbrandt and Signor Rizzi created these under the supervision of Cullis Hill. This fresco from the ceiling of the drawingroom was described by the reporter as ‘done in the quaint old 14th century style’. This section depicts ‘out-door sports. The fishing-lines of the jester and the almoner have become entangled, and a large wolf-dog seems disposed to arbitrate in the difficulty, while a party of young men and maidens are angling, feeding swans, or training hawks for a future day’s sport.’david carnegie, john halfey, southesk - cotham road - kew (vic), ordsall - cotham road - kew (vic) -

Booklet - Methodist Order of Knights Court Astolat Benalla, Silver Jubilee Anniversary 1934 - 1959 Souvenir Brochure
Court Astolat was chosen as the name for the Benalla Mehtodist Order of Knights in 1939. It is manor/castle in Arthurian legend where Sir Lancelot spent the night. The story of the naming of the Court is explained in E3112.73. The Methodist Order of Knights was the official youth organisation of the Methodist Church of Australasia. It originated in Hurstville, NSW, on the 4th October 1914 by the then Mr and later Rev Alex Bray. Alex Bray was a Sunday School teacher and spoke to his class of the Knights of the Round Table. In 1917 the Order of Knights was officially recognised by the Sunday School Dept of the NSW Methodist Conference. Courts spread thoroughout Australia. In 1927 the High Court of NSW called for designs for a badge and in 1929 the General Conference of the Methodist Church of Australasia recognised the Order as an approved Organisation. In 1938 the Senior Section was organised into Degrees of Sincerity, Service and Sacrifice; the Junior Section into Pages' Degree with advancement to Esquire. In 1954 the Junior Section was reorganised into two groups: Pages 8 to 11 years and Esquires 12 to 15 years. The Knight's Motto: "Live Pure, Speak True, Right Wrong, Follow Christ the King, else wherefore born?" Courts of the Order: General Conference Department of the Christian Education - General Court - Provincial High Court - District Court - Local Court - Senior Court - Intermediate Court - Junior Court . Booklet - Methodist Order of Knights Court Astolat Benalla, Astolat : Being the record of Court Astolat No 31
Court Astolat was chosen as the name for the Benalla Mehtodist Order of Knights in 1939.
