Postcards were a very common form of communication in the first World War. Demonstrates the Museum's ticketing systems and ongoing production of tickets.Block of 200 tickets - light red ink on off white paper, original denomination 5c, lettered A 175000 to A 175199, headed Ballarat Tourist Tramway and over stamped "CHECK TICKET NO VALUE". The Hydro mixer was attached to the kitchen tap which drove the mixing paddles.Mostly made of cast iron covered with green enamel. Its base is a 20 centimetre diameter and two centimetres high and shaped to hold a bowl, there is a protrusion eight centimetres long, four centimetres wide and nine centimetres high. A hinged section is attached to the protrusion of the base, it's a curved oval shape that's four centimetres by three centimetres at its base and tappers to four centimetres by two centimetres at the top, it then widens to an eleven centimetre diameter and three centimetres high shape that is parallel to the base, the centre of it is above the centre of the base. There is a removable eleven centimetre diameter plate screwed to the top. A two centimetre diameter 60 centimetre long plastic hose with a brass fitting on the end that is flared to four centimetres is attached to the side of the circular top. This kettle was made in the 1880s.Cast iron kettle 16 centimetres diameter at its base and 18 centimeters diameter at its widest point 11 centimeters above the base, it then curves up another three centimetres where there is a ten centimetre diameter hole. A non-matching metal lid with a one and a half centimetre knob covers the hole. Three centimetres from the base of the kettle there is a two and a half centimetre diameter spout which tappers to one and a half centimetres, it's 14 centimetres long and has two bends. A handle is attached to the top of the kettle, it is two centimetres wide, it extends two centimetres straight up at both ends that are 12 centimetres apart then forms an open oval 20 centimetres wide and nine centimetres high, it's one and a half centimetres thick for 11 centimetres at the top and has groves for fingers on the under edge.K23.1kettle, cast iron

A slim white square hardcover book with text by Harold J. Pollock and a record of Menura the Lyrebird. The cover has the title written at the top - Menura the Lyrebird with a round photograph of a Lyrebird in the bush with its tail fanned. Jacaranda Nature Series is printed in blue at the top right hand corner of the front cover. At the bottom is printed in black lettering - EP RECORD INSIDE FRONT COVER. Inside the left front cover is a pocket with an EP record recorded by Harold J. Pollock. The book has explanations of the sounds recorded as well as coloured photographs of the lyrebirds in their natural habitat. At the back of the book is a list of recordings on each side of the record. The back cover has a black and white photograph of Harold feeding a lyrebird by hand on his knee. Black and white photograph of tramcar 76 at Batman Avenue terminus in 1925. The tram is a single-truck California combination tram, one of 20 built for the P&MTT in 1915. The photo was taken at Batman Avenue in 1925 and shows a driver or conductor adjusting the trolley pole. The photo shows the Batman Ave terminus and Flinders St station in the background. Tram 76 was built in 1915 by the Meadow Manufacturing Co in Sydney for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust before transferring to the MMTB in 1920. The J-class tram was bought by the SECV in 1931 and moved to Ballarat as tram No. 19. It operated in Ballarat until it was transferred to Bendigo in 1960 as tram No. 7, operating as public transport until 1972. It is now in operating condition at the Tramway Museum Society of Victoria in Bendigo. Two copies of document : nineteen handwritten pages of notes on 'The Rich Victoria Hill and Its Historical Association' Signed by A Richardson and dated 30 - 8 - 1971. and a typed copy of same. Notes include: Introduction, Hotels, Mines, Mining History and descriptions of features where the signposts are. Mines mentioned in the text are: North Old Chum. Ballerstedt's first open cut, Lansell's Big 180. 20 head stamper, Lansell's Cleopatra Needle, Victoria Quartz Mine. Cleopatra's Needle was a square sectioned brick chimney with this four sided pyramidal chimney top with four vents to allow the smoke to escape whatever the direction of the wind. It was demolished in the 1950's as it had a bend in it and it was considered unsafe. Lansell had two other mines with similar chimneys, the '222' in Chum Street and his 'Sandhurst' or 'Needle' mine near the Bendigo, Eaglehawk boundary. Handwritten extracts, with typed copies, from the Bendigo Advertiser Monday July 24th 1933. First erected for 20 years. Mr Cook performs Opening. Approx. 400 people attended the opening on Sat 22nd. Expected that when run in, the ore will be crushed for 2/6 per ton. Consists of 10 heads, 1000 lbs each. Boxes are of Homestake pattern with wooden horses of special timber and iron guides. Copper plate tables of ample area provided. Floors are of concrete and so graded that all washings - -. Expected later to expand to 30 head. A 114 H P Ruston-Hornsby crude oil engine is provided with a friction clutch to facilitate easy starting, and will be capable of driving the battery when it is extended. At one time Her Majesty's Theatre was known as the Memorial Theatre. When these photos were taken Geoffrey Biddington was highly involved with the Ballarat Branch of the National Trust. The book was compiled by Allan B. Peisley. In 1891 a pineboard, portable school building was sent from Melbourne to Gabo by schooner, and transported to a site approximately 1½ miles SE of Genoa. When erected by Henry Bucknall, it was listed as Genoa River School. It opened on 24th of August with an enrol­ment of approximately 20 pupils under the guidance of Algernon de Havilland, and served the district until 1928 when a combination of white ants and dry rot caused the building to be abandoned. School was held in the Genoa hall as a 'temporary' measure until a new building was erected, and it was during this period that N. A. Wake­field, later lecturer and author of natural history articles and books, served as HT. The ‘temporary' measure proved seemingly permanent as it was not until 1953 that a new school was built on the present site, ½ mile W of Genoa. This school was opened by the late Sir Albert Lind on 15th of August 1953, the original name being amended to Genoa State School. Since then much has been done to maintain the grounds and buildings at a high standard.This item is a useful reference tool on the history of Genoa in East Gippsland.A book of 36 pp titled Genoa School History.
