The quilt was purchased from the Wool Quilt exhibition held at the National Wool Museum in 1995. It was subsequently exhibited in the Expressions 2000: The Wool Quilt Prize exhibition in the 'Invited exhibitors' section of the show. (Jan Irvine wrote the catalogue essay for this exhibition.) The quilt is part of the "Running Stitch" Collection. This quilt is titled "Sure as Night follows Day" and was made by Jan Irvine from worn and recycled woollen blankets with wool batting. The quilt has been crazy pieced, air brush dyed and hand quilted. The quilt was exhibited in the Running Stitch Contemporary Wool Quilt Exhibition held at the National Wool Museum in 1995 and was purchased for $1800 from this exhibition. The quilt was catalogue entry no. 18. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. It was the first independent school of nursing in Victoria and continued until it closed in 1989. The book "The First of its Kind" was published in 2015. Printed in Bendigo by "Bendigo Modern Press". From the 18th Century museums and individuals have collected man's manufacturing work, the bottle. Mr. R. Graham Carey (1874 - 1959), who claimed to be the oldest pilot in the world, had his ancient Farman “pusher” aeroplane on display at the Motor Show in the Exhibition buildings, Melbourne. This list of rocks, minerals, etc. from Victoria was complied and forwarded by the School of Mines, Ballarat, to the Calcutta International Exhibition. At the end of the exhibition the items were to be presented to the Geological Survey of India. One Hundred items are listed. Pages 4 and 5 also show diagrams relating to the land formations and sections. Places in Victoria are named indicating where items were found. List compiled by Professor Ferdinand Moritz Krause. He joined Ballarat School of Mines in 1880 and lectured in Mineralogy and Geology. The Centennial mosaic covers a wall 68 feet (20.72 metres) in length and 14 feet (4.26 metres) high. Michael Taffe created his exhibition garden at Ballarat in the the late first years of the twentieth century taking out many amateur awards at flower shows which were a popular form of hobby and entertainment of the era. The following is an extract from Warrnambool and District Historical Society Website which explains briefly the Great Exhibition of 1896-97 The Great Industrial and Art Exhibition in Warrnambool in 1896-97 was an exciting affair for the town and the surrounding area. People came from far and wide to be enlightened, educated and entertained, with 70,000 visitors passing through the doors during the three months of the exhibition. Not bad for a town with a population of only 6,500 and a further 9,200 living in the surrounding shire! Planning began at a public meeting attended by 60 people in May 1896 and the exhibition opened in December the same year on the site of the current Light House Theatre. The architects submitted plans for four annexes, complete with turrets, a fernery and a giant flagpole. The site covered 1 acre and included a Marine court, industrial exhibits, an education court, defense and agriculture court, stalls, coach builders, dairy show, an art court and provision for a smorgasbord of various entertainment. It has social significance also linking a number of names related to the event. Rectangular cardboard. pale cream and aqua background, multi linear gold and deeper aqua border with rounded and right angled corners. An interior border has a swag, linear vertical ribbons with four emblems related to science, labour, arts and industry. Four local black and white photographs, the town council crest and town officials, patron and councillors. The information on this document shows the inspiration and planning for the building of the aquarium at the Warrnambool breakwater. The instigator was Mr. John Doull, builders Fotheringham Constructions and architects, B. Auty and D Jenner. The Aquarium was opened in December 1971 by The Hon Ian Smith MLA. There were four separate exhibitions and galleries listed on the document. The Aquarium closed around 1998.A local landmark in the latter part of the 20th century with the domes being easily recognized. Rose Series postcard No. P 3942, Collins Street looking west, shows a view from Exhibition Street with several motor cars. A W2 class tram with route number boxes is in the far distance, and some pedestrians, including a lady in a white habit or uniform. The T&G building sports its original tower as built in 1929. A collection of 20 photographs which shows different aspects of Warrnambool. In 1896 Joseph Jordan was given exclusive rights to produce a souvenir booklet for the 1896-97 Warrnambool Industrial and Arts Exhibition. The Jordan studio sold many publications such as albums, which featured local scenes, as well as postcards, and greeting cards for different occasions and portraits The Jordan studio was a significant photographic studio in Warrnambool. They produced a large volume of work which is a useful record of scenes of the Western District and Warrnambool. This Souvenir booklet was a memento of an important event in Warrnambool. The advertisements also provide a record of people in business at that time.Pale green light card cover with dark blue text and illustrations which consist of title in the middle of cover with floral border along bottom with drawing of bird inset in floral picture at the top. Diploma for Gold Medal won by John Baker for best Lincoln Wool in show at the Earls Court Greater Britain Exhibition, London, 1899. John Baker owned a Lincoln sheep stud with 300 ewes and rams in Pomborneit, Victoria. The property was named Lakeside and the stud was Flock No. 5 in the first Flock Book of British Breed Sheep published in 1898. Lakeside rams and ewes were awarded Champion Ram and Ewe at the Sydney Show in 1892. By 1919 Lakeside was the largest registered Lincoln stud in Australia. The stud was dispersed in 1925.Brown timber frame with glass covering at front. Pale gold timber framed paper certificate inside. Certificate has a painting of a man being drawn by four horses beneath and arch with more people in the background and a tall ship. Front foreground depicts three men, one carrying a tray of food, another with a tray of gold and a third shearing a sheep.
