Set of 4 run number plates used at North Fitzroy Tram/bus... at North Fitzroy Tram/bus and Footscray depot - plastic sheets off ...Set of 4 run number plates used at North Fitzroy Tram/bus and Footscray depot - plastic sheets off white or cream painted with the letter N of F (to indicate the depot) and a number to indicate the run number. Would have been used on buses as well. Letters in either red or black, some plates have a single hole in the top. Used to identify the depot and "run number" or timetable that the tram was running on, two in each tram, to enable monitoring by inspectors and crews. Question - were these used on Z class trams prior to the introduction the AVM system rather than metal run numbers. Cuttings from the Ballarat Courier, date from around 23 August 1971 following the closure of the Victoria St lines and part of the Gardens route. Includes a poem titled "Vale, the Tramways!", written by SMP, an item by a staff report going to to school by tram in Victoria St and Sturt St ""Will miss the tram". Other items "Work begins on Lake Route" about the BTPS agreement with Council, quotes Paul Nicholson, removal of parking meters, derailment at the depot, and bus stop signs being damaged. Also possibly copy slides as quality is poorish. 1175.1 - No. 27 has derailed at Depot, across Wendouree Parade, and No. 33 appears to be about to try and tow it back on. Wendouree Parade totally blocked. Adjacent pole has tram stop sign and has "Stafford Court" street sign mounted on it. 1175.2 - No. 43 at corner of Drummond St. South and Dana Street, with destination Lydiard St. North. 1175.3 - No. 42 (Mt Pleasant) and 21 (Gardens via Sturt St. West) crossing at Gardens Loop. 1175.4 - No. 42 bound for Lydiard St. Nth at intersection with Macarthur St. Shows the retaining wall for the cutting on the east side of Lydiard St. Nth. 1175.5 - No. 43 at corner of Lydiard St and Sturt St., at city terminus showing "Special" and tram 35 adjacent to Post Office in Lydiard St. Nth. Colour photograph of TMSV tour photo for the 60th anniversary of electric trams in Ballarat in August 1965. Photo of Ballarat No. 18 photographed alongside MMTB AEC Regal Mk III bus, No. 543 (42 seats) (Reg. No. HJG 543). No. 18 has a specially painted board over the front of the tram "60th Anniversary / Electric Trams / 1905 Ballarat 1965". Standing between the tram and Bus are Les Denmead, D. Irvine, J. Dowd and T. Young. Both vehicles showing "Special" and standing on Ballarat depot fan. Photo also appears in "MMTB News", Oct - Nov. 1965, Reg. Item 2719.7. Dave Macartney advised 19/11/01 that other the other official guests at the event was Mr. F. K. White, Manager Ballarat SEC. Also attending was W.J. K. Dunstan.
