The Baranduda and District School Sports Association held its first interschool sporting competition in 1936. Schools included in this association were Allan’s Flat, Bonegilla, Baranduda, Leneva, Mitta Junction, Staghorn Flat and Wodonga West. This commemorative trophy, The Thomas Chubb Shield, was donated to the Sports Association by Mr. Albert John Chubb, in memory of his father. Mr. Thomas Chubb was a successful businessman in Albury and an active supporter of many institutions and community organisations in the Albury Wodonga area. Mr. Albert Chubb actively supported school sports carnivals across the district, including being the official starter at many events.This trophy has local social and cultural significance as it provides evidence of sporting and social interaction between the small schools in the Wodonga and surrounding communities,A wooden shield presented to recognise winners of the Baranduda and District School Sports Association from 1936 to 1949. This photo is part of the Fred Griffith Photographic Collection. Frederick Charles “Fred” Griffith was born in Albury, NSW on 2 March 1910. He was one of the pioneers behind the development of Falls Creek and an inaugural member of the Albury Ski Club. After a serious work accident, Fred retired in 1985 and moved to Rosebud, Victoria where he died on 19 August 1992. A Bogong ski team travelled to the South Island, New Zealand in 1950 and raced in the Wigley Cup, becoming the first Australian club team to compete in New Zealand. They had 4 daughters – Francis (Nancy), Heather, Jessie and Mary. In 1920, the family moved From Albury to Wodonga, purchasing their family home “Locherbie” at 169 High Street, Wodonga. A variety of companies in Britain and Germany manufactured similar kits prior to WW2.A metal miniature tool kit including a screwdriver, an awl and 2 augers stored in a metal cylinder. The cylinder screws together in the centre. There is a central slot on each side of the cylinder sot that the end of each tool can be inserted. The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment.Black and white photograph mounted on chipboard backing of Centurion tank with 15 troopers standing beside and atop . Annual Camp 1968 was a Centurion Tank camp. Ferret scout cars were used for reconnaissance.
