This rather poor copy was scanned from what appears to be the minister's original typed copy. Mrs Ailsa Attenborough had kept it and was at this final service as organist, 12th July 1970. The minister for the day was the Methodist minister Rev. Norman Higgitt? who lived in 'The Parsonage' 38 Nyora Road Poowong with his wife Lettie. This document along with all the Loch Poowong Uniting church parish achives are about to be sorted and sent to the Uniting Church archives in Melbourne where they will be housed appropriately and can be accessed by the public.

This file contains four items about the visit of HRH Prince of Wales Edward (later Edward VIII) to Australia in 1920 and specifically a visit to Caulfield on 31/05/1920. 1/A souvenir program ‘HRH Prince of Wales’ visit to Caulfield 31/05/1920: it appears to contain copies of the pages of a book, which it is noted was embossed by a patient at a Rest House in Caulfield, signaller Don Ende, a soldier of World War I. Included is a letter from the Caulfield Mayor W. A. Wharington and Town Clerk F. Jowett to Edward, as well as a typed reply from Edward to the mayor. One from 1982 which contains twelve pages, seven of which are typed and the last five a continuation of the guide added later, hand-written. The other is a modern typed version of the same document. It discusses how Pension payment increases are delayed long after they are announced which results in pensioners living below the poverty line. 2/Copy of newspaper article dated to 24/07/1982. The article is titled ‘Aged burden a myth: professor’ by Philip McIntosh. The professor of social and preventative medicine at Monash, Professor Lou Opit, was speaking at a seminar about the rising welfare payments for the aged and their cost to the taxpayer. The article also shows a table of countries rated in order from highest to lowest for welfare spending and Australia is 17th out of 19 countries. 3/Original copy of typed document titled ‘Facts about Pensioners’ authorised by the President of Caulfield Combined Pensioners Associations.
