The book about Chopin was written by Ernest J Oldmeadow for the Bell's Miniature Series of Musicians.This small dark red, leather bound book has Chopin printed in gold on the front cover and on the spine along with two treble clefs. Opposite the title page is a plate with an 1847 drawn image of Frederic Chopin. There are several other plates within the book. This snuff horn belonged to the Rev. Thomas Hastie, pioneering Presbyterian minister at Buninyong from 1847 to 1898. Nazi Germany silver 2 Reichsmark Hindenburg/Swastika. This historic silver 2 Reichsmark was struck by Nazi Germany from 1936 until production was halted by the start of World War II in 1939. It is an historic coin of the failed Third Reich.German 2 Reichsmark Coin. A silver circular coin dated 1939. This album has historic and social significance in that it appears to be a collection of family photographs which link areas of Scotland with the coming of early settlers to Australia and in some photos obviously to Warrnambool. This stamp was used for official correspondence, minutes etc by the Warrnambool 150th Anniversary Committee in 1997. The occasion was the 150th anniversary year of the establishment of Warrnambool in 1847. The President of the Committee was Frank Jacobs and the Secretary was Gordon Reid. The donor of the stamp was a member of the Co-ordinating Committee.This stamp is part of the collection of items from Warrnambool’s 150th celebrations in 1997. It has no intrinsic value but the stamp may be used for future historical exhibitions.This is a modern self-inking stamp which stamps out ‘Warrnambool 150th Anniversary Co-ordinating Committee’. These cuff links were produced for the Warrnambool City Council presumably to give as gifts to visiting dignitaries etc. They may also have been available for the public to purchase. Warrnambool, first settled in 1847, was proclaimed a Municipality in 1856, a Borough in 1863, a Town in 1883 and a City in 1918. These cuff links are of minor interest as an example of an item produced for the Warrnambool City Council – to use either as gifts or to sell to the public as a memento of the city. These are round metal cufflinks (2) outlined in gold with gold pins (two prongs and a bar) for attachment to the shirt sleeves. The cuff links have the City of Warrnambool logo with gold, blue and cream printing and enamelling. The cuff links are in a plastic box which has a white base and a clear plastic lid and red velvet lining. An item from an outstanding and diverse photographic collection, assembled by members of the Christian and Washfold families of Kew.Juvenile Temperance Society Kew ‘Band of Hope’ issued to Orlando Christian on 1 August 1860. The two- colour printed certificate advises the member to avoid the use of tobacco and snuff and commits the child to abstain from intoxicating drinks. The illuminated certificate has a prototype Australian coat of arms centred in the lower border. The Band of Hope movement originated in Leeds in 1847. In contrast to the Rechabites it was a children’s movement. Louisa Henty (1847-24) was the eldest daughter of Francis and Mary Ann Henty (nee Lawrence). Following the deaths of her mother and father, she inherited 'Fieldplace' in Studley Park, Kew, and 'Merino Downs' in Henty, near Casterton. The original photo, owned by a descendant of Francis Henty is part of an album of family photographs.Print copy of an original carte de visite; a studio portrait of Miss Louisa Henty, daughter of Francis and Mary Ann Henty (nee Lawrence). The British Parliamentary and general public outcry following this disaster resulted in the establishment of the lighthouse at Cape Otway in 1848 (and indirectly the establishment of Warrnbambool in 1847)This button, listed as a uniform button, is of some interest as a small relic of the shipwreck, Cataraqui. This wreck has a connection to the establishment of the Cape Otway lighthouse and to Warrnambool’s history as Superintendent Charles LaTrobe came to the Warrnambool district several times in an effort to find the best route to the Cape Otway area. While doing so he became familiar with the Warrnambool area and the need to establish a new settlement at Warrnambool. Harriet Frances Wicken, 1847-1937 was a cookery lecturer and demonstrator in London and published her first book “Kingswood Cookery Book” in 1885. She migrated to Australia in 1886 and gave cookery classes at Warrnambool. Over the ensuing years she worked as a Technical Teacher in Sydney and published a number of books on cookery and domestic economy and housekeeping. The author is one of renown in her field and spent a period of time in Warrnambool. The contents of the book show methods of cooking and basic dishes of the time. These child's skis which were made by Tyrolia. The Tyrolia company was founded in the state of Vienna in 1847 as Wiener Metallwaren-, Schnallen- und Maschinen- Fabrik GmbH. Tyrolia produced a variety of products out of metal and timber but didn't enter the binding business until 1949. They are accompanied by a set of bamboo stocks which have leather straps.This item is significant because it demonstrates developments is ski technology. This is a program of the Centenary Procession that took place in Warrnambool in 1947 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the city’s founding in 1847. It was originally intended to celebrate the 100th anniversary in 1940 but these celebrations were postponed because of World War Two. In 1947 centenary celebrations were held but on a less lavish style. 1947 was a more appropriate year as 1847 was the year of the first land sales for Warrnambool and the arrival of the first European settlers in the town. The 1947 celebrations included a Grand Procession which was estimated to have been watched by 20,000 people. A similar number saw the bonfire and fireworks display in Albert Park the same evening. The celebrations lasted a week and included a choral thanksgiving festival in the Botanic Gardens, a massed band display and a ‘Warrnambool Can Make It’ exhibition of local manufactures. The well-known historian and Town Clerk at the time, Henri Worland took a prominent role in the organizing of the celebrations. This little booklet is of considerable importance because it contains a short description of the floats and the names of those connected with the various floats of the Warrnambool Centenary Procession of 1947. It not only gives us a better idea of what and who were in the procession but it now enables us to better label the many photographs we have of this procession and to identify the people in the photographs. The program is a valuable source of information for historians. It also is a good example of the type of celebratory procession that was popular 70 years ago. This is a paper program of the Warrnambool 1947 Centenary procession. It has four pages and a buff-coloured cover. The front cover has a sepia-toned photograph of the first car purchased in Warrnambool (1906) and on the back cover there is an advertisement for Lane’s Bus Services. The inside front cover has an advertisement for Guyett and Sons Furniture Store and there are other advertisements throughout the pages. The printed text on buff-coloured paper gives details of the 29 floats in the ‘Mechanized’ Section and of the 27 floats in the ‘Back to the Horse Pageant’ Section. The pages were stapled but the staples have been removed. There has been some silverfish damage.
