Photograph, Apokries Festival, Ithaca, c1970s
The photo is taken in Vathi Ithaca at the Apokries carnival. It is the tradition to dress up and have fun. The Agios Prebezis and Papadia signs on the back of the two people in the foreground are satirising the church and relate to a scandal during the 1970s involving the Metropolitan of Prebesa (Prevesa) and a local priest's wife. The Apokries festival period traditionally begins ten weeks before Greek Orthodox Easter and culminates with fancy dress and masquerade parties on the weekend before Ash Monday, the first day of Lent. The name Apokries means abstention from meat, as during lent no meat is eaten. The Apokries festival dates back to Dionysos, the ancient Greek god of wine, fun and fertility. A coloured photograph of a crowd celebrating at a carnival. Two people with their backs to the camera are in fancy dress and are wearing hand written signs on their backs. The corners of the photograph are rounded. -

Melton City Libraries
Archive, Melton Uniting Church Dinner invite, 2017
"The Uniting Church and former church hall are historically significant at a Local level (AHC A4). It was built after Melton’s ‘United’ church and school, erected by Protestant denominations in 1857 in an effort to share resources in the pioneering era, was replaced by individual churches in the 1860s. The church became the home of and is expressive of the union of the Methodist and Presbyterian churches, begun in Melton from the early 1970s, and formally concluded by the formation of the Uniting Church of Australia in 1977. The new additions and functions of the church are expressive of the increase in Melton’s population especially in the 1970s, and the changing nature of the parish’s ministry. The church is one of only three remaining nineteenth century churches, and one of only two remaining bluestone churches, in the Shire of Melton".Dinner celebrating 150 years of the churchchurches -

The Art Collection features over 1000 works and was listed as a 'Ballarat Treasure' in 2007.Stoneware form decorated with lustre glaze. This ceramic form is a sculptural representation of rock forms Daly created during the 1970s and 1980s. His magnificent lustre glaze is a signature of Daly's master work with glaze production. Greg Daly is regarded as Australia's most pre-eminent ceramicist and teacher. His ceramic production is technically outstanding, his original forms float in an ethereal space far superior in conceptual design than those ceramic works which remain rooted to the table tops. This piece is a magnificent example of the work of this ceramic genius. Description by Dr Susan Patersonart, artwork, ceramics, greg daly, lustre, glaze -
