Historical Details: The Museum’s Gipsy Moth was built in 1929 and is the oldest complete aircraft in the collection. It had an adventurous career, including two round trips to New Guinea in the 1930’s. It was one of the first aircraft used to air deliver the HERALD newspap. This medal was struck in 1938 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of British settlement of Australia. “An Anniversary celebrations medallion and an illustrated brochure telling the history of Australia were presented to pupils at many schools yesterday. It was officially explained last night that these are ultimately to be distributed to the children in every school throughout the state. The medallion is in bronze.
