Melbourne Legacy
Document - Report, Annual Review of Operations 1987, 1987
This document is a review of Legacy operations for 1987. It highlights areas of Legacy operations that could be improved upon, and makes suggestions/recomendations on how to achieve these goals. For example - Paper No 1. Recruiting Korea, Malaya, Vietnam Legatees. Paper No 2 Retention of Korea, Malaya, Vietnam Legatees. Example 2. Paper No 5. Widows Assistance to Legatees, widows helping other widows in need eg. home/hospital visits, bereavement calls. Example 3. Paper 7a. HDCC Planning For the Future - 12th April 1986. How Legacy may be able to assist handicapped/disabled children and the parent caring for the child. Nine papers were presented for this review plus appendices. As Legatee numbers dwindle the thoughts behind the review are how to maintain the relevance and assistance of Legacy into the future. It was thought that a time span of three years projecting into the future was a suitable time frame. Therefore changes to be made would not have to be as dramatic or confronting if a greater time span of say five years was used.Set of reports and letters in a light blue cardboard cover, 44 white pages bound by blue binding tape.annual summary, planning, objectives -

Book, Our Sunday Stories, 1880's
This book was a prize given by the Warrnambool Baptist Sunday School to Richard Petterd in 1888. The Warrnambool Baptist Church was established in 1864 in a small cottage in Kinross Avenue in Warrnambool at the home of Mr and Mrs Andrew Griffiths. In 1869 a church was built in Koroit Street and enlarged in 1974. From time to time more improvements were made and the church still operates from the same site today. A Sunday School was established in 1865. Richard Forrester Petterd, born in 1878 in Warrnambool, was the son of George Petterd and Mary Ann Petterd, nee Warn. He married Susanna McConnell in 1903 and died in 1935. A daughter, Muriel, married Frederick Wooles in 1933 and it was their son, Kenneth from whose estate this book has come to be added to the Society’s collection. This book is most significant as it is a rare memento from the early days of the Warrnambool Baptist Sunday School and it belonged to Richard Petterd whose family was involved in businesses in Warrnambool as picture framers, stationery and fancy goods shop proprietors and estate commission agents. The book is a very attractive example of Victorian-era children’s books. This is a hard cover book of 80 pages It has a multi-coloured front cover depicting three children reading a book with a window behind them and floral decorations and two birds surrounding the three girls. The red binding is somewhat torn. The back cover has black and white etchings of flowers and children and advertisements for other books available. The book has several black and white drawings in grey tonings.‘Warrnambool Baptist Sunday School, Fourth Class United, Third Prize awarded to Richard Petterd, April 10th 1888.’warrnambool baptist church, richard petterd, kenneth wooles -

Print - The Australian Ski Yearbook 1937 advertisement image in frame
These items are from the private collection of George Shirling of Red Onion, Falls Creek. This advertisement was featured in The Australian Ski Yearbook 1937. George Shirling arrived in Falls Creek in 1962. He engaged Phil Nowell to build the original Koki Alpine Lodge which opened in 1965 with 14 beds. George operated the lodge with Michael “Baldy” Blackwell as manager. He also graduated in sport psychology in 1981 and was invited to become team psychologist for the Australian Winter Olympic team which went to Albertville, France, in 1992. He later owned the Red Onion Chalet. George credited the success of Koki to “Baldy” Blackwell. “Baldy” and Phil Nowell started the Trackers Mountain Lodge in partnership during the 1980s. In 1971 George sold Koki Lodge to Sigi Doerr. In 2024 the renamed Koki Alpine resort remains a highly popular destination in Falls Creek. George Shirling passed away on 27th February 2023. He had remained actively involved in Falls Creek and was generous with his time and knowledge, always an amazing supporter of The Falls Creek Museum and Falls Creek Village. This item is significant because it contained promotional material for Australian Ski Resorts and also honoured Cleve Cole.A black and white advertisement for Skiing in Victoria. It is accompanied by a detailed sign which explains key items in the publication. This edition of the Australian Ski Year book also contains an account of the death of Cleve Cole on 19th August 1936. Cleve Cole was ever an adventurer, and his passion for skiing led him, year after year, to pioneer new runs and open up new country. He pushed hard for the development of Mt. Bogong as a "skiing resort". After his death £500 was sought to build a "substantial stone building on Mt. Bogong which would give access to really excellent ski runs on the highest mountain in the State". Today, the Cleve Cole Memorial Hut (altitude 1,760m) stands 4kms south of Mt. Bogong, about 15kms NE of Falls Creek across the Big River. Cleve Cole's death led to the Victorian Government making a grant of £50 for the erection of snow pole lines on Mt. Bogong so that "all those who desire will now be able to spend a holiday in Victoria on Mt. Bogong" (Australian Ski Year Book 1937, page 55)ITEM No. 2 The Australian Ski Year Book 1937 "For Perfect Skiing in Victoria... THIS WINTER!"
