Black and white photograph of a Bendigo Single Truck straight sill tramcar (were numbers 1 to 12) prior to fitting windscreens (Destination Eaglehawk page 30 - says this occurred in 1920). Tram has "Dewar's imperial whisky" roof advertisement, "Bendigo Tramways" on the letterboard, on the front dash, advertisements for "O-T+ drink additive on either side of the headlight and "Silverline Soap" on the panel either side of the bumper bar. See Reg Item 1712 for side on view of this tram. Photograph appears to be a photo of another print, with black ink "18" in the bottom left hand corner on the newer print on copy 1 of the item only. An ESCo era timetable. Two local businesses have advertised as well.Folded printed card, off white, titled "Ballarat Tramways Rubicon Street and Sebastopol Time Table." Gives details of trams from the City for Rubicon St and Sebastopol for the various days and inbound trams from Rubicon, indicating that trams ex Sebastopol ran 10 minutes earlier. Has various notes on the timetable. On Front of card, has advertisements for R. Hutchinson - 29 Armstrong St Ballarat, auto electrician and Suttons Ltd - Musical instruments - Corner Sturt and Dawson Streets. Photograph - Postcard, Ballarat South Street Competitions Cornet Champion Frank Wright, 1919, 1919
Frank Wright was a renown resident of Smeaton, where he was born. He lived at Laura Villa, and attended Smeaton State School. His father William was a gold miner and his mother's name was Sarah. Their family won many singing and instrumental awards. Frank was tutored by Percy Code and became the Australian Open Cornet Champion by the age of eighteen. A year later, Frank conducted the City of Ballarat Band, and later the Ballarat Soldiers’ Memorial Band. He formed the Frank Wright Frisco Band and Frank Wright and his Coliseum Orchestra. These bands won many South Street awards, and Frank as conductor won many awards in the Australian Band Championship contest. In 1933 Frank Wright sailed to England to conduct the famous St Hilda’s Band and was later appointed Musical Director of the London County Council, where he organized many amazing concerts in parks, in and around the London district. He was made Professor of Brass and Military Band Scoring and conducted at the Guildhall of Music and Drama. Frank was often invited to adjudicate Brass Band Championships around Europe, in Australia, including South Street and in New Zealand. The Frank Wright Medal at the Royal South Street competition is awarded to an individual recognized as making an outstanding contribution to brass music in AustraliaA black and white photograph of a cornet player depicted in uniform. Staughton Vale High School was opened on the 5th of November 1875 The first head teacher was Thomas Scott. It had a chequered history, operating only part-time for some periods, closing in 1949, but reopening in 1957, and finally closing for good on the 30th of September 1968. This badge has a 1920 clip attached to the crown (the clip was changed each year to indicate membership renewal). The rear of the badge is stamped with the member number 39561 and has been engraved with the name G Bolger.The badge has the following inscription "RETURNED SAILORS & SOLDIERS IMPERIAL LEAGUE" and "AUSTRALIA". -

Ledger - Kiewa Valley Rifle Club
The Kiewa Valley Rifle Club belonged to the Australian Rifle Clubs. They were in Military district No. 304 and operated as early as the 1920s. In 1876 an Australian Rifle Team, consisting of shooters from N.S.W. and Victoria, was the first team ever to officially represent Australia in any sport in international competition. In 1885 the first civilian Rifle Club was formed and after 1901 Rifle Clubs came under army control. In 1921, they were reconstituted as a purely civilian organisation where they have remained ever since.This ledger is evidence that the Kiewa Valley Rifle Club existed in the 1920's and 1930's, enabling its members to participate in a sport that had 12232 members and 313 Rifle Clubs in Victoria by 1939.Large yellowed alphabetical ledger covering the 1920's and 1930's with names, age, height, occupation and date of enrolment.
