Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. The images held within the National Vietnam Veterans Museum make up the Gibbons Collection. Photographs of the Union 2018 State Election Campaign team. On 23 April 2018, Matthew Guy (Opposition Leader, Liberal Party) visited the City of Ballarat as part of his election campaign. Whilst Mr Guy was inside of the Ballarat Council building, activists from Trades Hall gathered outside with an enormous inflatable lobster. The lobster is a reminder of allegations made in 2017 that Guy dined on lobster with alleged mafia entities who may have been donors to the Liberal Party. 23 April 2018 - 2 photos. Victor GREENHALGH (1900-1982) Born Ballarat, Victoria John Grey Gorton served as Prime Minister from 1968 to 1971. He was a member of the Liberal Party of Australia, and alienated many with his unorthodox style of leadership. In 1971 a party vote on a motion of confidence in his leadership was evenly split and Gorton resigned. Victor Greenhalgh was born and educated in Ballarat. He was a student, then a staff member of the Ballarat School of Mines Technical Art School. Greenhalgh was appointed head of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology's Att School in 1955. He died in 1983. This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection. The Art Collection features over 2000 works and was listed as a 'Ballarat Treasure' in 2007.Plaster marquette of the bust of Prime Minister John Gorton. Administrative record - Laurel Cafe Check Book
The Laurel Café was opened in February 1929. According to newspaper articles, the Laurel Café was "one of the most up-to-date cafes in Victoria." The Café specialised in homemade cakes and served a range of three-course dinners to casual diners and private parties. A private room was available for weddings and banquets. 100-page check book for taking orders at Laurel Cafe in Williamson Street, Bendigo. Paper is yellowed and torn in some places. Cardboard backing supports the top half of the pages. Each page is numbered in red lettering, the number appearing twice, once above the tear line and once below. Torn paper held in place by staples at the books binding indicate that at least one page has been removed. Some 400 tonnes of cut firewood was distributed amongst legacy Widows in the Melbourne Metropolitan Area this year (c1966). The firewood is collected by Cobram/Yarrawonga Group of Melbourne Legacy and transported free of charge to Melbourne by transport firms who provide trucks and drivers without charge. It came from a Legacy envelope marked P7, 1966.
