A report submitted by the Sub-Committee appointed at the meeting of 20th April 1956 to be considered on 1st May 1957 at the Melbourne Town Hall meeting. Legatee James Gillespie advised that the original author selected to write the biography of Sir Stanley Savige had withdrawn, and Legatee Gillespie offered four alternative authors for the Committee to choose from. Part of the paperwork chronicling the early planning for the biography, which was eventually written by W.B. Rodgers identifying the objectives of the sub-committee to review and make recommendations to the Board with regard to the need for and the future of residences. Discussions were wide-ranging and in greater depth than those of the Forecasting Committee (Cat.No. 01670), and the results showed a continuing need for accommodation, whilst phasing out at least one of the residences during the 1970s, with alternative accommodation needing further investigation. Report presented by the Steering Committee to the Board of Management dated 18 March 1975 with their recommendations for the future of Blamey House, Harelands and Stanhope. The Committee was chaired by Legatee A. Quayle and composed of Legatees J. Chancellor, H. Berg, H. Rodgers and E. Trebilcock. They noted that occupancy rates were falling (Appendix 'A') and it would not be economically viable to renovate the buildings. They recommended that: Harelands should be sold and Blamey House redeveloped for widows' accommodation, and that Stanhope should be modified for co-ed accommodation. The photos are of one of the last Annual Bendigo RSL Dinners held in the SMI, this is most likely 1998/2000. The Dinners moved to the Bendigo District RSL Sub Branch Inc at Havilah Road about 2001. The A.N.A. Hall in View Street was opened in August 1894. The Sandhurst Branch was started on August 26th, 1874. In July 1874, several gentlemen met together, and when a sufficient number had given in their names and sufficient promises of support had been received, the board of directors were approached with a view to forming a branch of the association in Bendigo. On August 26, 1874, the inception took place. The building was demolished in 1971. Plaque formerly attached to the lower edge of the framed photo collage of the Building Committee of the Sandhurst Branch of the Australian Natives' Association. It lists names of men in the photos. Names printed on gold coloured paper mounted on piece of masonite, matching the position on the collage.
