Yields information about the early staff of the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria following the electrification of the tramways and their appearance.Laminated Black and white print from a copy negative of a group of ESCO employees (motormen conductors and pointsboys?) in front of the tram depot with tram cars 17, 10 and 2 behind. All wearing uniform hats, but not all wearing full uniform (no badges but wearing ties - possibly temporary or casual staff - c1906 - 51 people. Print from a copy negative (N13), made early 1997 for display purposes and laminated. Has four Velcro dots on rear. Copy of printed or photocopied letter sent to all Public Transport Corporation (V/Line - railway and The Met - Tramways and bus) dated 25/6/1992 signed by the Chief Executive Office, Ian F.X. Stoney. Letter concerns the "alleged" drinking of tramway staff and illegal stoppage of trams, as published in the Sunday Age. Investigations determined the photo was the Coburg Tram terminus and the crew member was drinking a "Bundaberg Ginger Beer" stubbie. Functional Object - Cap Badge, Stokes & Sons Melbourne, "ESC of V Ltd", 1905?
Cap or lapel Badge for the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria (ESCo) staff. Has abbreviation of "ESC of V Ltd". Made from a cast brass item, nickel plated to indicate the position held by the wearer as part of their uniform. Cast in the form of the handwritten or script word/s and underlined. On the rear, silver soldered on are two brass loops at either of the badge to enable badge to be sewn or fitted with clips onto the cap or the uniform. Exact use of the badge not known at the time of cataloguing. On the back of the back of the badge in letters is the name of the manufacturer - "Stokes & Sons". Demonstrates aspects of the SEC ticketing, governance and monitoring systems. The Pass or ticket could be issued to a SEC staff member to enable travel on the tramways while on business. Style remained very similar to the end of the tramways.Six blocks of SEC Provincial Tramways "Staff Ticket" and four individual tickets. Individual tickets printed on heavy dark grey (Grey 200 gsm card) with black printing. Ticket blocks consist of 50 printed tickets, with stubs, stapled with red cardboard covers. Ticket good for single trip only, of use by employees when travelling on Commission's business. Form No. TYE-2-19. Not known when printed, possibly 1960's maybe earlier. 2101.1 - Aa 002580 - 2599. Used as a means of authorising a tramcar to have sole use of the track between the named points to avoid head on collisions. Safeworking object - known as a section staff. Not known when made, but in use until the introduction of the electric signalling in the mid 1930's by the SEC. Functional Object - Cap Badge, Stokes & Sons Melbourne, "17 Conductor", 1905?
Cap or arm Badge for the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria (ESCo) "Conductor" with conductor staff number "17" Made from a manufactured and steel plate, nickel plated to indicate the staff number position held by the wearer as part of their uniform. Letters and number stamped, with horizontal lines. At each side of the badge are vertical holes through which light leather straps have been fixed with button holes to enable securing the badge on an arm. Leather straps black on one side and tan on the other. On the rear, silver soldered on are two loops at each end of the badge to enable badge to be sewn or fitted with clips onto the cap or the uniform. Badge appears in some photos of ESCo staff in the 1900's. On the back of the back of the badge in letters is the name of the manufacturer - "Stokes & Sons". Describes the Automaticket system, has samples of traffic tickets pasted in the book, diagrams, drawings, gives details of the components and method of operation in particular ticket inspection, ticket and checking back office functions. Published by the Bell Punch Company of London early to mid 1930's? Cover and each page headed "Confidential Information for Executives". Has a photo of South Western Roadlines double deck bus with a conductor. See also Reg. Item 3629 for another version of the pamphlet for this machine. In the rear cover of the book, folded and stapled to give a pocket, are listed three forms that would have been provided with the book - not with the collected copy. -However in the pocket were eleven 11 "Ticket Issue Machine" or "TIM" tickets - eg City of South Melbourne library fine, packing slips, sample meal tickets, Army canteen beer tickets, and sample bus tickets - including one pinned to a business card - John Bolland of Eastern Suburbs Omnibus Service who were the agents for the TIM machines. (image btm3645i3) Card has date of "4-1-50". Also three sample Bell punch tickets and one ultimate machine ticket - two 1d tickets. As well at the time of acquisition were a SEC Special Pass - to Reg Item 3648 and a SEC Staff Pass ticket - to Reg item 3649. Demonstrates aspects of the SEC ticketing, governance and monitoring systems. The Pass or ticket could be issued to a SEC staff member to enable travel on the tramways while on business. Style remained very similar to the end of the tramways.SEC Provincial Tramways "Staff Ticket" No. Aa000448. Printed on heavy dark brown paper with black printing. Ticket good for single trip only, of use by employees when travelling on Commission's business. Form No. TYE-2-19. Not known when printed, possibly 1960's maybe earlier. Has been cancelled by "X"d in ink and removed from a 1930's ticket manual or similar document as it has paper on the rear of the ticket covering the conditions of use - see also Reg Item 3648 for the same paper backing.Has been "X" in inktrams, tramways, tickets, staff tickets, employees pass -

Has colour cover of Yallourn power station with, SEC logo. Gives an introduction, advice on appointments and promotions, salary accelerations and increments, education and training, leave (Recreation, sick, special and long service), classification and appeals committee rules and information.
