Letter concerns the "alleged" drinking of tramway staff and illegal stoppage of trams, as published in the Sunday Age. Investigations determined the photo was the Coburg Tram terminus and the crew member was drinking a "Bundaberg Ginger Beer" stubbie. Cap or lapel Badge for the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria (ESCo) staff. Has abbreviation of "ESC of V Ltd". Made from a cast brass item, nickel plated to indicate the position held by the wearer as part of their uniform. Cast in the form of the handwritten or script word/s and underlined. On the rear, silver soldered on are two brass loops at either of the badge to enable badge to be sewn or fitted with clips onto the cap or the uniform. Exact use of the badge not known at the time of cataloguing. On the back of the back of the badge in letters is the name of the manufacturer - "Stokes & Sons". Demonstrates aspects of the SEC ticketing, governance and monitoring systems. The Pass or ticket could be issued to a SEC staff member to enable travel on the tramways while on business. Style remained very similar to the end of the tramways.Six blocks of SEC Provincial Tramways "Staff Ticket" and four individual tickets. Individual tickets printed on heavy dark grey (Grey 200 gsm card) with black printing. Ticket blocks consist of 50 printed tickets, with stubs, stapled with red cardboard covers. Letters and number stamped, with horizontal lines. At each side of the badge are vertical holes through which light leather straps have been fixed with button holes to enable securing the badge on an arm. Leather straps black on one side and tan on the other. On the rear, silver soldered on are two loops at each end of the badge to enable badge to be sewn or fitted with clips onto the cap or the uniform. In the rear cover of the book, folded and stapled to give a pocket, are listed three forms that would have been provided with the book - not with the collected copy. -However in the pocket were eleven 11 "Ticket Issue Machine" or "TIM" tickets - eg City of South Melbourne library fine, packing slips, sample meal tickets, Army canteen beer tickets, and sample bus tickets - including one pinned to a business card - John Bolland of Eastern Suburbs Omnibus Service who were the agents for the TIM machines. Yields information about the closure of the SEC operated Ballarat system - presented in an unorganised manner and without newspaper dates.Set of about 6 newspaper clippings glued to a sheet of lined paper. Cuttings from the Ballarat Courier, date from around 23 August 1971 following the closure of the Victoria St lines and part of the Gardens route. Includes a poem titled "Vale, the Tramways!", written by SMP, an item by a staff report going to to school by tram in Victoria St and Sturt St ""Will miss the tram". Significant in being a sheet regarding tramcar braking systems and how considered at the time - 1950. No mention of sand in braking technique.Was contained within Reg Item 3519 in which located in the filing cabinet 8/2006. Small typed carbon copy instruction or "Notice to All Traffic Staff" titled "Braking", discussing the names of emergency brake. Notes air braked trams have on emergency brake only - the air brake. Stopping trams electrically is not regarded as brake equipment, and should not be used unless air brake is defective. Dated 24/11/1950.
