The foundation stone for St George's Church of England, Mont Albert was laid in 1886 on land donated by Edward Dyer and the first service was preached in January 1887. From 1904 until 1907 it was known as Holy Trinity, Surrey Hills. The original church was weatherboard and replaced by a brick one in the Gothic Revival style which was designed by local architect George J V Blackburne, who also designed the Wesleyan School at Surrey Hills. The building was partly funded by donations, profits from a bazaar and concert, and other people donated furnishings. The church had boundaries along Mont Albert Road and St Georges Road. In 1998 the Church was sold and converted into a complex of units. Its current address is 19 St Georges Avenue, Mont Albert. The purpose of this working bee in 1923 was to close up the double gateway, which in earlier times had been used for entry of by horse-drawn vehicles to the church grounds. 'Lugano' was built in 1893 for William Wilson, a prominent stonemason and importer of marble fireplaces. In 1903 it became the home of William Holmes who was Chief Electrical Engineer for the Victorian Railways. He designed the electrification of the Melbourne suburban network. 'Lugano' stayed in the Holmes family until the 1930s. Norman Carter took many photos of Surrey Hills and Mont Albert from the 1920s in particular of events and activities associated with the Church of England.Black and white photo of 6 men behind and in front of a picket fence, a section of which has posts and railings only. The Bridge Hotel was built by Henry Hopwood to house visitors to the town crossing the Murray River on his punt crossing, which was situated just below the Bridge Hotel on the Murray River. The accommodation was spacious and grand! In the right back corner of the photograph, the 'lantern' roof of the St Georges Hall can be seen. The street is level with the front entrance to the Hotel, which is very different to what it is today.The photograph shows hotel activities and accommodation in the late 19th Century.A black and white photograph of the Bridge Hotel taken from the Hopwood Gardens. Chris. Christiansen was the photographer in Sunbury from 1892 to 1916. St. Andrew's Church in Sunbury have organised an annual flower show for many years and it is held in the Sunbury Memorial Hall.A black and white photo of a flower show mounted on a cream frame. The Sunbury War Memorial is situated on a triangular section of land which was once at the intersection of Barkly and Stawell Streets. The precinct is also the site of the Rupertswood Gun and the Starkey Fountain. This type of wire cot was in common use in Maternity hospitals from the 1920s to the 1950s. Cot and bedding originally from the Maternity Unit, St George's Hospital, Kew. The hospital in Kew was closed in 1998 and the services transferred to Box Hill Hospital. Julie Collette, former General Manager, donated this cot and other items to the Museum collection in 1998. The mattresses were made by 'Cloudsoft' bedding in Fitzroy, Victoria. Infant's cot, made of wire and wire mesh, with two covered mattresses [218.2, 218.3]. Mattress cases are printed with text that reads 'Northern Hospital Linen Service - 51' and 'Stericlean Linen Service'.infant care

Minnie Mary Fimmel (1880-1965) was born at Kewell, near Minyip and married carpenter John Thomas Francis Moroney in 1897. His death left her a widow with two children. Minnie re-invented herself as Marie Minnie Dalley and commenced menial work in Melbourne. Known as ‘Ma’, she became a financially successful businesswoman, eventually owning various properties around Victoria including a ‘machinery factory’. She was much ‘talked about’ in the newspapers for her benevolent actions, particularly towards women. For this community service she received an O.B.E. in 1949. Aged 74, she became the first female mayor of Kew. Ma Dalley refused to accept a formal presentation of the honour at a ‘return ball’, insisting that the money be donated to St George’s Hospital, Kew. She continued to financially donate to various charitable organisations. Her piéce de résistance was a staggering £250,000 personal donation to further the building of St George’s Hospital. She died at Kew and is buried at Miniyip Cemetery. Framed large oil painting on canvas. Cr Marie Dalley in her mayoral robes. John Maclellan founded the Girls' Guild in 1904 with branches in St George's Prahran and Wesley, Lonsdale St. Annual meetings were held at the Prahran Methodist Mission. There were 120 branches which concentrated on gymnastics in winter and choir singing in summer culminating in mass displays of both each year. Activities included interpretive dancing to the music of Gilbert and Sullivan; baseball; tennis; squash; lacrosse; basketball; croquet; rugby football and on Sundays hospital visiting. This undated and unsourced newspaper article is about Girls' Guild which had disbanded 30 years prior to the article being written. The British War Medal 1914-20 was iInstituted by King George V in 1919 to mark the end of World War I and record the service given. The qualification period was later extended to cover post-war mine clearance and service in Russia during 1919 and 1920. The British War Medal was awarded for service in a theatre of war between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918. Those eligible included members of women's organisations; persons on the staffs of military hospitals and members of recognised organisations who handled sick and wounded; and members of other duly recognised or other authorised organisations as specified in medal regulations. The qualification period was later extended to cover post-war mine clearance and service in Russia during 1919 and 1920. Lieut E. S. Holgate was mentioned in despatches for Gallantry in the Field 24/25 April 1918. He was killed in action at Villers-Bretonneux, 27 April, 1918.
