... Trams tramways Buses Tourist Bus Central Bus Garage tram 79 ...Black and white print of MMTB Bus No. 79. This was the second tourist bus, imported by MMTB Chairman Bell from Canada in 1939. It was built by the Canadian Car Co. Because of WW2, it was put into normal passenger service in July 1940 and had a mundane existence from that time onwards. It was sold to Melbourne Brighton Bus Lines however they never used it. Bus has the destination of Nicholson St. Appears is poor condition. Has other Mark III buses in the background. Opened November 1987. Rail Map - shows Route 96 north section as Light Rail, co-ordinated bus routes, and the Altona line as going to Werribee. This route was opened in 1985. Date of Map c1988/1990. News Release from the Minister for Public Transport Alan Brown, dated 18/11/1993 - about the future of the W class tram, keeping at least 51, the delivery of the B class tram, and keeping a further 50 for supplementary service. The Herald Sun item by Damon Johnston quotes the release and Alan Brown, Michael Norbury, Paul Mees of the PTUA, Lou Di Gregorio of the Union. Notes the proposed expenditure of $200,000 on each of the trams to be kept. Original of an instruction and notice that the City of Ballaarat approved the operation of the BTPS in Wendouree Parade from 6pm on 24/12/1974. Signed by Clyde Croft - then Secretary. Also instructs that all trams bound for Carlton St. must stop at depot junction. Notes that first tram ran out at 6pm was tram 26. In very poor condition. On BTPS letterhead, with words "Ballarat Tourist Tramway" along bottom edge. All in green ink. A stamp in black ink "LATE" has been stamped alongside the Secretary's name.
