Peterborough History Group
Souvenir - Bay of Islands Championshiop trophy
Informal 12 hole golf event, played on Grand Final weekend. This event was started by a group of friends when there were few official golf tournaments played at Peterborough. The event was a stroke event with "mystery handicaps" ie you didn't know your handicap until you finished playing. The event was played on the Sunday of Grand Final weekend (except initially); Friday night traditionally was tea at Boggy Creek Pub and a Fishing Comp on Saturday. The name came about because three of the regular players, Ivan Voss, Bob Loader and R. McKendrick had a hut at the top of the dunes near Crofts Bay. They had a clinker boat on the beach as well. They subsequently built a house in Childers St. It ceased when the original participants were no longer able to play. The date of the first winner is 1980, last recorded winner is 1995. No longer played. further information required. Winners: 2nd August 1980 F. Two page file note by J.O. Reynolds, Western Mining Corporation, 23rd December, 1980. 'R. Wright, Bendigo Office' is written on top right hand corner of document. File note details a meeting held between WMC and Bendigo Trust regarding the development of the Central Deborah Tourist Mine, where WMC would fund a $5,900 feasibility study to develop the mine as a tourist destination. It notes that there has been confusion re the insistence of WMC that the funding relates only to its purpose as a tourist destination and does not include ore haulage and the stamp battery. WMC stated emphatically that it did not envisage using the Central Deborah surface works for its own purposes.bendigo, gold mining, central deborah gold mine, bendigo, gold mining, goldfield, central deborah gold mine, western mining corporation, bendigo trust, bendigo mining nl, j.o. reynolds -

Eric Pringle's boot and shoe repair shop, with Ives fruit shop adjoining were both were both important local businesses. Those who remember Eric said nothing was too difficult or unimportant. He was so dexterous that he could carry on a conversation with tacks in his mouth. Eric James Pringle (c1904-1980) married Lillian May Gertrude Collins in 1928. He had boot making businesses in Glenferrie and Kew before coming to Surrey Hills. He enlisted in WW2 (No V363574). He is first listed at 152 Union Road in 1943. The business continued at this address but the family are listed at 283 Mont Albert Road in later electoral rolls.A black and white photograph of a shoe repair shop. A sign identifies it as E.J.
